New York Dopers: Are you getting T.V.?

I’ve got cable in the living room. The kids do not. The only channel they got since the 11th was channel 2. Today they got channel 9.
So New Yorkers, which stations (if any) are you getting without cable?

As of yesterday I am getting all but 13, they slowly started coming back a few days ago with Fox 5 being the last. The reception leaves much to be desired on all but 2

I do have cable, but a couple nights ago the anchor people on Ch. 4 were saying that WNBC has a new transmitter. I think it’s in New Jersey. They explained that non-cable customers might need to adjust their antennas to get the signal clearly.

I thought I heard that WWOR (Ch. 9) was out for rather longer than most of the other local stations but I can’t confirm that.

The new WNBC transmitter is in Alpine, NJ.
WNBC Transmitter Information

The new transmitter(s) are/will be in Alpine, NJ. So don’t point your antenna toward downtown Manhattan anymore; point it to (approximately) the Bronx.

I wanna smack you, SmackFu.

[grinny face here]

Radio hijack…

I just started getting WKCR again today…the Columbia University radio station that does jazz and avant-garde and urban blues and cowboy songs and just a whole lot of wacky stuff. I’ve missed it. Anyone know where they’re broadcasting from now?

My son goes to Brooklyn Tech. They have transmitter on the roof. He tells me Tech turned it on, but it’s only good for radio and cell phones. So Ike, you can probably thank my kid.
P.S., Radio and cell phones but not television? Do these things use different types of transmitters?

Hey, as long as the Stuyvesant HS students are over at Brooklyn Tech (of which I’m an alumni), maybe they and the Engineers can work together and boost the signal off the Tech Tower to cover the entire city, and make it so that TV waves can be broadcast as off it as well. Instant Intel Science project winner. Highly unlikely though.

I still get only Channel 2 and and two of the Spanish network stations. I want my cable now!!!

Hey Cap, from one alum to another, I want thank your Technites (is that right?) for making room for our Stuyvesantians.
