New York State Bar

I discovered (to my suprise) on Martindale that an attorney I’m associated with is not admitted in New York State. Is there anywhere online I can confirm this (obviously it wouldn’t be the first time Martindale was out-of-date/incorrect)?

Thanks!

The New York State Bar Assn. is voluntary, but I gather that nearly every lawyer in the state is a member. It might be a good starting point.

Nowhere near everyone is a dues-paying member of the voluntary NYSBA.

The OP was asking about the New York Bar, to which a lawyer must be admitted in order to practice in New York state, with a number of exceptions.

Passing the Bar Exam and passing character and fitness and paying your fee gets you admitted to the New York Bar. It also gets you a New York Bar number, which can be checked here: http://portal.courts.state.ny.us/pls/portal30/INTERNETDB_dev.RPT_ATTY_REG.show_parms
