When I see outbursts like this author’s in my family or friends I use it as an opportunity to start a conversation. Either to clarify or to reach mutual understanding.
I have no problem with taking that social cost, but if anything results in attacks to my ‘dignity’ it is people trying to keep me in line with the status quo.
I would feel defeated if I said nothing, but it would be nice to have some support in this goal.

I think you misunderstand the whole point of what privilege is.
Everyone has privilege, just different types and it is not something to be ashamed of, but something to pay attention to because it acts as blinders related to the experiences others have.
If you would be willing to not dismiss it or feel attacked about it you may learn how it completely relates to empathy and not some tit for tat score keeping. It would probably help you understand why your attempts to blame “black culture” aren’t any different than direct racism.
