New York Times hires unapologetic racist writer

…not a gotcha.

You are choosing not to confront someone in this very thread using words that you say should never be said. Either you are a coward or you don’t really hold the courage of your convictions. I’m picking the latter.

I definitely do have better things to do with my time than to read an article written by a staff writer for the National Review. And “virtue signaling” is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of. And I’m a photographer, not a writer, so it would be pretty fucking stupid to even consider hiring me to write a menu.

I’m not sure what you expect. I disapprove of andros using that rhetoric. Should I challenge him to handbags at dawn to prove it?

That sums up your willingness to examine your own ideas critically, doesn’t it. If it makes you feel more comfortable, I can assure you that I was linked to the article by a black writer with impeccable left wing credentials. I don’t know what David French’s broader political views are, but that’s not relevant to the merits of what he says here. In any event it’s short, no more than a 5 minute read.

Lol fuck off, it’s either all ok, or none of it is ok, you can’t have this racism+power privilege bullshit applied to all situations. She made racist jokes, she shouldn’t be enabled with that shit.

And here we see why assuming that Sully has ANYTHING useful to say is always a mistake. The man should be deported just for being a fucking Tory even this far into his emigration.

Ah right, so she gets a pass because her ethnicity is not in a position of power in the US, even though it’s statistically proven Asian Americans are the highest earners in the country, she’s been to Harvard, yet a communications director who was talking about the severity of hurtful language at Netflix gets fired for saying the N-word in context.

Do you guys not realise why there is so much controversy around this? You can’t just pretend it’s all Alt-right conservatives trolling.

I don’t think she’s an out and out racist or hates white people, but she sure as shit made racist jokes about them, she shouldn’t get a pass as she shouldn’t be held to a different standard from anyone else. Why is this so hard to understand, fuck Andrew Sullivans hit piece, her tweets alone should of got her fired, because if it was anyone else, they would of been out the door long ago, context or no context.

I’m curious…have you ever tried not being stupid?

You’re asking me that question, when you come out with bullshit such as this?

Again, either racial jokes (because I know she isn’t calling literally for elminating an entire ethnic group) made by all ethnicities are ok, or none of them are ok. People of colour are not people who needed to be defended by fellow White people as if they’re children, I’m going to treat POC them as they should be, as individual human beings.

I think you need to read this link, you are seriously lacking.

So…that’s a no, then?

You just going to evade the counter points I’ve made? Because I’ll wait.

You think you made counterpoints? Totes adorbs, here’s a cookie.

The full quote is “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers”. From William Shakespeare’s Henry VI, Part 2, Act IV, Scene 2.

Applying the same standards, obviously we must condemn Willie The Shake for his bigotry against lawyers, yes?

Said by a character named ‘Dick the Butcher’ a killer who’s name is a pun framing him as evil…pretty hard to blame the old bard for having bad guys in his plays.

(TL;DR, I agree 100% with everything this person is saying, and this is really bad for social justice causes.)

If you’re looking for the most effective way to alienate white people or men, here it is. “Satirical” calls to genocidal violence. I don’t particularly care that Jeong and her boosters don’t have the power to make this happen, or even that they don’t really want this (even though they’re clearly saying it, if only for shock value), that concept freaks me the fuck out. And I’m like 99% on board with social justice and the consideration of racism in the context of power and and and and and. It worries me for a couple reasons - it’s overtly dehumanizing, reducing my social group to the worst examples… Basically, if the main difference between your rhetoric and the “satire” of white nationalists is “you don’t have the power to actually enact what you’re doing”, something has gone wrong.

I’m a white cis man. I’m also a decent person. I try really, really hard to be a decent person. And stuff like this doesn’t give a shit about that. I’m just another white guy who deserves to fuck off and get castrated.

It takes more understanding than I have to not see something like that and feel attacked. And I’m guessing most people don’t have as much understanding. There is no real nuance in “kill all white men”. It’s “satire” in the same way as “get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich” is “satire”. It’s not particularly funny, and anyone who looks at that and says, “Yikes, that’s fucked up” is entirely justified in their opinion.

And then we excuse that and say, “Hey, this person can write for our most influential media outlet. This is fine. Grow a thicker skin, white people, gawd.” And yeah, okay, we could afford to grow a thicker fucking skin. White fragility is absolutely a thing. But in the short term, this doesn’t help. It alienates people who, at the end of the day, we absolutely need as allies.

Of course they understand it’s a double standard and hypocritical. But that’s merely an inconvenience to overcome. The goal is to demonize certain ideological positions by linking those positions to weaponized language that can only be directed at approved groups. Such as conservative or male. Other groups, by some crazy definition, can’t be the target of such weaponized language. How convenient for the left. And using logic, a construct of the patriarchy, will be met with a cacophony of personal attacks and ridicule. You are not dealing with honest folk.

Yet no outrage on the dope or right wing media at all for a guy who actually wore a ‘Pinochet Did Nothing Wrong’ shirt.

As a white male, you should find this disgusting. As a fellow white male or risks are really having to compete on a level playing ground, but when the Trump rally organizers who are now emboldened are now wearing shirts from mass murders who actually raped women with trained dogs and live rats and even made a father and a son rape their sister can you understand why they may want to throw some of this back our direction.

Should a Pit thread be created every time someone wears a Che shirt as well?:dubious:

That said, those are some disgusting details. Being raped by a rat sounds pretty sadistic and vile.

While I am not a Che fan, can you point to massive Human rights violations, or do you just lump him in the same group because he didn’t share the same politics as you?

Sure he was a cold hearted executioner, but really you are going to have to sell me on this even being the same.

To clarify Guevara calling for the executions of hundreds of Batista officials without any fair trial is reprehensible, but on the continuum here this is far more evil.

An important part is the hipsters wearing those shirts didn’t know about the murders, where the proud boys absolutely know. The fucking shirt has “Make communists afraid of rotary aircraft again” with people dropping from helicopters on the back.

Are you really going to claim that much ignorance?

…I don’t expect you to do anything. Its perfectly clear that despite your rhetoric about the “modern standard being zero tolerance” its a standard that you are choosing to not apply to white people participating in this very thread. (until I called you out about it.)

Says the person who sought out and cited an article that pretty much agrees with everything you believe in. Do you think that shows a willingness to examine your own ideas critically?

What happened to zero-tolerance?

Of course they are relevant. I wouldn’t read anything written by Jordan Peterson. I wouldn’t read anything written by Hitler if it was cited in support of a position. I wouldn’t read the opinion of an incel on dating in modern society and I wouldn’t read the opinion of a gamergoober’s thoughts on ethics in games journalism. Are you that uncritical of the people you use as citations? You cite someone who’s broader political views you don’t even know?

…lol.
