I think I’ve alienated a lot of my peers by using “old-fashioned” phrases (for me, it’s “oddly enough,” “life of Riley,” or pretentious words like “pedantic” and “saturnine”). But that definitely will not stop me from using them!
Thanks for the link! I’m ashamed to say I have not seen any Charley Chase films. I’ll put some on my “to watch” list!
Eve is working on two books right now; she’s submitted full proposals for them an is awaiting replies right now! I sure hope they get accepted!
Eve sent you, huh? That’s what they all say. I extend a tentative welcome and stare you down Larry David style.
Welcome Cindycat! I’m a crazy dog person. Always must have one. Two is better so they can play.
I’m on the wrong side of 50, but one of my best friends just turned 31 (he’s teaching me guitar, I’m teaching him chess. Beers are required in these classrooms). Getting old isn’t all that bad. A few decades behind when it comes to music, but I find that I really don’t care.
Hi, Cindycat! Please give our love to Eve; we remember her well, and miss her terribly.
Welcome cindycat. Nostalgia for the 90’s, eh? Well, I am regrowing my beard (let the girl’s 12U soccer team I coach cut it off for winning tournament medals) with a 90’s look…the 1890’s, that is…
Welcome!
I’m also a student in my 30s, though it’s my first degree. Most of the younguns on my course are pretty nice and don’t just live on their phones, but I do feel like the fusty old Gran in the corner sometimes.
Welcome Cindycat! Hope the weirdos here don’t scare you off…
Oh, who am I kidding? We’re ALL weirdos here!
Welcome, Cindycat, and good luck to you on your second degree. How far back does your classic Hollywood expertise go? Are you knowledgeable about the silent era?
I love Curb Your Enthusiasm! I am such a social assassin ![]()
Yes, I am learned in silent film, especially the work of DW Griffith. I am
most knowledgeable about the films of Mary Pickford, Harold Lloyd, and Billie Burke (sadly none of Billie’s silent exist, but I have read about them)! Are you a silent film buff?
Hello fellow thirty something (did you ever see the tv show thirty something by the way? It’s pretty good!) What are you studying? I’m Psychology, which is ironic considering I’m so neurotic!
High:D
Exactly! Welcome aboard, and best wishes to Eve!
And now if you’ll excuse me, gotta get back to the curling!
I like them, but I’m no expert. Mostly I wanted someone to fangirl with - I just saw Ramon Novarro in The Pagan and he made my eyes pop. How is it I never heard of him before?
You should see him as Judah Ben-Hur, from 1925!
What’s this about Analog being better than Digital?
Should the OP start a new thread on silent movies at this point?
Welcome to the Boards, Cindycat.
Welcome, Cindycat!
And please give my regards to Eve. We never interacted much here, but as a fan of old movies, I was always interested in what she had to say about them. Without knowing it, through her mentions and suggestions, she helped me discover a few that I have since quite enjoyed.
