I think I’ve alienated a lot of my peers by using “old-fashioned” phrases (for me, it’s “oddly enough,” “life of Riley,” or pretentious words like “pedantic” and “saturnine”). But that definitely will not stop me from using them!

I’m also a student in my 30s, though it’s my first degree. Most of the younguns on my course are pretty nice and don’t just live on their phones, but I do feel like the fusty old Gran in the corner sometimes.

most knowledgeable about the films of Mary Pickford, Harold Lloyd, and Billie Burke (sadly none of Billie’s silent exist, but I have read about them)! Are you a silent film buff?
