Newbie RC Truck Questions

Newbie Questions

Hello all, I’m new to RC and just have some general questions:

  1. Batteries
I have 4 3000mah battery packs and a MRC Super Brain 819. Will this charger properly charge the 3000mah batteries I have? The reason I ask is because after a fast charge I get very short run times and not much power:

  1. What are the best batteries you can get for the Traxxas Rustler? I got mine at batteryspace.com for very cheap, maybe not a good idea?

  1. Does anyone know where a good track to race at might be found in the Philadelphia area? I’m just getting into it and would like to find a local RC track or club to get involved with. Unfortunately most RC clubs I can find on the internet in my area are for flight which I haven’t gotten into yet. In time…

  2. I’m looking on eBay right now for a great deal on a gas powered truck. Ideally I’d like something ready to run that includes everything I need except maybe gas. The Traxxas T-Maxx looks like a decent buy but I see lots of others in there. What’s a good truck comparable to the T-Maxx? I plan to spend around $300-$350 for everything.

Nobody? :dubious:

Wish I could be helpful, but I’m out of the loop. I had an RC Tamiya “Frog” about 15 years ago, but it’s probably ancient compared to the stuff today. Only thing I could suggest is picking up a magazine, (model RC IIRC) and checking out the back pages. I know years ago they had some pretty good resources, lists of tracks, etc.

Happy racing.

I think for most battery charging, you have to cycle the battery at least three times before you get maximum performance out of it. What I mean by cycling is:

Charge the battery for the full time the instructions say to. After installing it in the truck, run the truck full throttle until the battery has been COMPLETELY discharded. Then do the same thing again two more times. Each time you do this you should notice that the battery will last a lit longer. By the third time the battery should be completely cycled or (broken in) giving you longer and stronger running times. For more info I would visit a local Hobby shop or call and ask them over the phone. They should be a big help. Either way, keep us posted and let us know how things turn out

I know this because I too am an R/C fan, only I have my attention aimed at the skies
