newbie status...gone? (a milestone)

Because it’s such a huge event in my life, I’m making my 100th post this threadstarter…Congratulate me, galdurnit, you heathens!

So when do you stop being a newbie? 100? 500? 5000?? I suppose it’s when you start being recognized and stop posting the absolute dumbest questions. (Like this one).

It’s sort of a Taoist thing: “Those who know, don’t say. Those who say, don’t know.”

Good lord, that’s even more irritating than one of my least favorite phrases: “Dude, if you don’t know, I’m not gonna tell you.”
Gah.

Well, we’re not going to tell you, although I hear it’s 10,000 now.

Okay, newbie.

When you feel comfortable responding to any post and stating your opinion without worrying that you are too “new” to be saying this to all those intimidating, wise people out there.

“newbie” is a relative term. I’m still a newbie, and it will be a long time before I consider myself an old timer, but as time goes by you slowly start to feel more part of the SDMB community. I guess the less worried you are about shaking the newbie status, the less of a newbie you become. Just relax, enjoy the boards and don’t let it stress you.

Whenever you no longer want to be a newbie, you are no longer a newbie.

Welcome home, heh heh heh. :stuck_out_tongue:

My butt iches.

I considered myself beyong newbie status when other Dopers started contacting me through e-mail, IM, or my journal.

That’s just me, though.
