i have been with the straight dope message board for a while now, 38 posts so far, should be upwards around 40 bythe end of the day, but i was wondering when i stop being a newbie and start becoming a notsonewyetnotsooldbie, kinda a middlebie,
if anybody that knows would let me know, i would appreciate it, and i would then be able to make fun of newbies with everyone else, kinda like when your a freshman in highschool, you cant wait till next year so you can kick the crap outta some little freshman just because you had the same done to you,
although,. i never experienced that, nor has anyone on the sdmb made fun of me for being a newbie, i think i just am a little sadistic, well not really, i just love a good verbal assault on people that know not what they are talking about,
e=mc2
(ie. it’s all relative. I’ve got a few posts up now but still feel like a newbie in the shadow of Wally and co.)
Good question. The answer is here:
Look for all the high counts claiming newbiehood (newbiedom?). It warms the heart of a old coot, I can tell you.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone made fun of you for not knowing how to construct sentences?
i belive you just did, yippie im officially a newbie now, of course i cant tell you to kiss my ass yet, but you can be sure that i am thinking it
its not the structure of the sentences that counts, its the content (of which mine has relitively little plus i cant spell)
I think under 50 posts is “newbie” territory. 51-499 posts, you are a “poster.” 500-999 posts is a “semi-regular” poster. And 1,000 posts make you a “regular.” 2,000 posts make you a “regular+.” 3,000 posts make you a “regular++.” 5,000 posts make you a (get this) “regular grande.” And 10,000 posts make you a “super dope.”
is there anybody on the sdmb that has 10 000 posts? if there is, where can i find this person of great importance and sore fingers?

There, don’t say I never did anything for you.
Oh, go 'head. I haven’t had anyone tell me to kiss their ass all day.
I can’t argue with that…at least not without a couple stiff drinks in me.
Handy is close to 5,000 so is CKDextHaven. I believe they have the highest post counts here.
No one has 10,000 posts. I think Satan has the most, and he’s in the 3,000+ area. Post count doesn’t always mean a lot. The SDMB has been around in various incarnations for a number of years, and there are quite a few real oldbies who have a very low post count cause they hang out in some of the other forums, like AFCA or MFSD. I’m in the 600 posts area here, but I’ve been a Doper for approaching three years, before this board existed.
Anyway, don’t worry about newbieness. Post good stuff and you won’t get bothered. This applies to everyone, new or not.
I think you’re no longer a newbie when you stop asking, “Am I still a newbie?”
It’s not about post counts, it’s the quality of posts.
There are a lot of people in here that have been here since the days of AOL, they are not newbies but post count is relatively low…
So I concede, if you have something to say then that is more important than post count.
well i have been a reader of the straight dope for a long time, about a year on aol before the switch, and ever since the switch, aLthough i just a month or so ago decided to get with it and join the sdmb does that count?
It’s definitely not about post count. I just went over 500 posts the other day, but I post a HELL of a lot (a combination of having no life and typing fast).
I think the rating should go like this:
1-50 (give or take 15 or so): Newbie
50-250 (g/t 30): Poster
250-750 (g/t 75): Middie
750-1500 (g/t 150): Regular
1500+ (g/t 250): Oldie
Note that a person can be a Newbie/Poster, or a Regular/Oldie, or a Middie/Regular, etc.
Also, this rating assumes that a person has only had one name on this message board only, ignoring those who were part of the old message boards. Those people are classified as “Veterans” in addition to their post count on this board. So a person can be a “Veteran Newbie/Poster”, for example.
Now, my head hurts, so I’m gonna go watch TV and deaden my senses.
wow spoofe has replyed to two of my threads, i feel really privilisged grr i hate it when my fingers type like noodles
looks like my guess of 40 by the end of the day was a little off yippie kay yay, im up to 54. whoo hooo i think i am going to go to bed now, last post of the day and its sucks. oh well sue me. i have to work. and the sdmb is getting slow now tht its late
fnord: You know that largish button over on the left side of your keyboard? The one under “CapsLock”? Labeled “Shift” with an up arrow on most? Try using that at the right times, it will work wonders for promoting you past “newbie”.
And spelling; try to look things up & check your typing. Now, I know I make quite a few typos myself, but there is a difference between carelessness & ignorance.
See, you just got (VERY gently) flamed by a “Regular”, or is that a “semi-regular”?* Now, when somebody hauls your butt into the PIT for a good flaming, and not for trollish stuff, but just for stating an opinion that pisses someone off, you “belong”.
*I get plenty of fiber, so I think it should be “regular”.
Daniel… I guess you “belong”, then, bro
Thanks, Spoofe, I DO appreciate it. But Otto, Opalcat & Yosemitebabe flamed my butt when I first got here, after maybe 40 posts. Those folks are kinda touchy about the “vegan” thing. And happy B-Day, again.
fnord1966, as long as you have fewer posts than I, youll be a newbie.
