Newly Noisy Neighbor upstairs

My upstairs neighbor (let’s call him Jethro) seems to have lost his job. After a year of living downstairs without hearing a peep, suddenly he is pacing back and forth above my head until 2 AM! How I do handle this situation? Although, like Jethro, he is large and stupid, he is also scowling and unfriendly, esp towards the rest of the building (it is a large house broken up into 4 apartments.) Should I let Milburn handle it? It’s ruining my beauty sleep and making me cranky, and if I approach it the wrong way, he can make it a lot worse.

Till recently, my Mom lived downstairs from the Amazing Clog-Dancing Toddler, and the apt. next to mine is vacant—I am in a frenzy about what trash my absentee landlord will rent to. I found a nice, reliable woman who wants it, but can’t afford the rent the landlord wants for it—I am trying to convince him he’d save money if he lowered the rent and got a reliable tenant who’s not going to run out, like the last three have done. Cletus and Brandine downstairs got into a kerfluffle at 1:30 a.m. this week and every cop in [deleted] showed up . . . charming.

Anyway, back to Jethro. Are you at all on chatting terms with him? Can you arrange to “run into him” and lightly say something?

Is there a management company or condo association in your building? In my experience, an official letter from the building might do the trick, especailly if he’s a renter.

Well, his cousin owns the building, and the management company is aware of how nasty Jethro is, so it’s a tricky situation.
