News Anchor is fired for referring to Kamala Harris as colored in news promo

That was two generations ago.

And your “ignorance” isn’t that studio’s problem.

Of course they have changed. I already said my books in college were updated to African-American.

I’ve considered colored obsolete since then. I don’t use that term anymore.

Racist? I hadn’t really seen it discussed anywhere. I haven’t seen it used in decades.

Never mind, discourse messed up the post.

I find this statement preposterous. Sometimes it seems like you grasp at straws to explain why something might be the way it is without considering the likelihood of it actually being so. “Colored” has been shockingly wrong for at least 50 years. Only a moron would mix it up with “person of color”.

It’s not so much outright racist as it is dismissive or disrespectful. Jesus. We’re talking about basic respect. How the hell is it complicated???

I haven’t seen “pickaninny” (sp?) used in a long time, either. Should we give it a pass if a newscaster forgets?

I was born in the midwest in 1950. It was out by the time I reached the age of reason. It was clear then that insult was intended by using it.

He damn well what he was doing. He was hoping to get away with it. His bluff was called. He bought his ticket and took his chance. He lost.

Omg, this was in CLEVELAND? I thought it was going to be in some backwoods town that time forgot.

Well, the board has spoken. The guy deserves to be slapped down and fired. I’m fine with that. I don’t have any big stake in this.

It’s hard keeping up with cancel culture these days. That’s the point of the thread. Find out how others feel about current topics.

The only way to find out is to ask in IMHO.

It’s only hard if, you know… nevermind. “Cancel culture” What a modern term! From the guy who lost touch with “Colored” because it was used in the early 70s. Give me a motherfucking break.

How am I supposed to know it’s now considered racist? This is the first time I’ve seen the term used publicly in decades.

Obsolete words usually just die and fade away. You don’t even think about them anymore.

That’s maybe plausible if he was trying to say “person of color”, and it got tangled up in his mind and came out “colored person”. But he wasn’t. What he said was, “The U.S. officially has its first colored vice presidential candidate.” That’s not a slip of the tongue.

So if someone said to you, “Hey, look at that colored guy”, it wouldn’t hit you as racist? Seriously?

That’s a hint.

Whether it is full blown racist, just disrespectful or merely ignorant depends on the context. 26 years old? He didn’t grow up using that term. If he was raised in a barn by two homeschooling catastrophists preparing for the end times he might get away with ignorant. But all evidence points to another conclusion…

And why do you think they die?

Edit, I borked up the quotes. Yarrr, I don’t know what I’m doin’

What is this, Post Like A Pirate Day?

Is it? I was just channeling my inner sea captain. https://frinkiac.com/meme/S05E08/848113.jpg?b64lines=IEFSUi4gSSBET04nVCBLTk9XIFdIQVQgSSdNCiBET0lOJy4=

Because he would only ever have been exposed to it in the context of it as a slur or jab or not current or however you want to characterize it.

He wanted to find out what would happen and he did. Prolly figures he has a safety net waiting and he’s prolly correct.

Newsflash: it’s 2020, nobody uses your textbooks anymore.
