Why do I bother reading the comments below news articles? Regardless of the subject of the article, the vast majority of the comments are thoughtless in both senses of the term. They are both stupid and mean.
I guess I hope someone sometime will post a comment to the effect of, “The article made a good point, I hadn’t thought of it that way before.” Because, honestly, I often feel that way myself after reading an interesting article.
But I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen. I should stop reading once I get to the end of news articles; the comments just depress me.
