NOTE TO ALL WHO RESPOND: This thread is not intended as any kind of liberal vs conservative debate. **Please don’t turn it into one. ** I am looking for a specific news story concerning a specific radio talk show host. For the record, I consider myself to be conservative, but Rush Limbaugh gets on my nerves, mostly because (in my opinion) he lies more than any politician out there, and he’s a pompous ass on top of it.
That being said, I seem to recall a news story in recent weeks to the effect that Rush Limbaugh’s recent hearing loss and near-miraculous recovery were all a big fraud and he actually went in for cosmetic surgery. Can anyone point me to a reliable news source with said story - and I mean a mainstream news source that’s relatively above reproach. My wife’s family has a depressing number of Rush fans, and we’d like to deflate them a bit. It’s a worthy cause.
Again, this ain’t the place to debate the relative merits (or lack thereof) that Mr Limbaugh or conservatives/liberals in general may or may not have, it’s a request for a link to a news story.
ABC news doesn’t seem to have anything about it. I really don’t think that story is true, partly because if it were a hoax, it doesn’t make much sense that he’d do it. I mean, when he was going deaf, he pretty heavily invested in equipment at his studios so that he could still take callers. There were doctors that testified to his hearing loss, and the doctors who gave him the cochlear implant commented to the press. It just doesn’t make sense that it would be faked.
I don’t follow Mr. Limbaugh, and hadn’t heard about this story until you asked this question. A quick web search leaves me wondering why he’d go so far as to apparently make his voice sound different well before announcing the hearing loss.
If you just need relative-deflating ammo, just tell them that one of the possible causes for sudden hearing loss is the STD syphilis.
Why would someone like Antonio De la Cruz, M.D. be involved in this sort of thing? As a doctor, what could he possibly gain from faking a cochlear implant operation?
I do not listen to him very much, but the last time I did his voice sounded odd. Later it was announced that he was loosing his hearing. It made sense that his voice being different was a side effect of his hearing loss. As for the thing being a scam, I think the press would have jumped all over it immediately since there is nothing they like more than tearing famous or at least known personalities down.
Hmmm…sounds like he may not have been lying…I remember reading the story, but can’t for the life of me remember where the heck I read it. Thanks for trying - I’ve run countless Google searches for it too and have come up dry.
As for accusations of “fighting dirty”, maybe I am, Wikkit, but that’s the way the OP came out at the early hour I typed it. Insomnia makes me blunt, I guess.
Color me extremely skeptical: why is this huge revelation just casually mentioned at the bottom of an article that’s mainly about Bill O’Reilly as a possible challenger to Limbaugh? Why hasn’t anyone in the mainstream media picked it up? Methinks RadioCrow mistook satire for fact, an all too common occurence , especially in the Internet age.
