What is the oldest still extant newspaper in the world?
According to them, it’s the Berrows Journal
The London Gazette is older, est. 1665.
It’s the Swedish newspaper Norrköpings Tidningar, est. 1658. Even older is, also Swedish, Post- och Inrikes Tidningar, est. 1645, but it doesn’t really function as a true newspaper anymore. Nowadays it’s more an organ for public messages.
According to the Guinness Book, the journal Post och Inrikes Tidningar has been published since 1645 by the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters. The Dutch newspaper Haarlems Dagblad/Oprechte Haarlemsche Courant has been published since 1656, under various titles. The oldest in the U.S. is the Hartford Courant, published since 1764, but it began as a weekly, not a daily.
