That is where my mailbox is, 2.5 miles from my house. I put it where they told me to put it. It took 3 or 4 years to get some sort of rural delivery. I had box at the post office for years. I have a parcel delivery box. I don’t like too much in it, it will get stolen. I do have a particular book place that will send me books on parcel delivery and my mail person puts them in the box. But Amazon orders have rarely been put there, usually soft packaging only.
I read my own meter and send it in when I pay the bill…i had to buy my own power poles to get electricity installed out here.
I’m guessing it’s Amazon’s last mile delivery service.
People sign up to deliver for Amazon. Amazon places pick up stations about 1 to 2 miles apart and assigns people that area. So, you will pick up however many packages from your assigned spot, and deliver them to people within a mile or so. People have talked about making up to 300 bucks a day, driving like 25 miles total.
Amazon was hiring drivers for this before Xmas. Great little gig of you have a minivan.
Beats the poo out of Uber.
That would explain how they could get me something the same day I order it. I live maybe 10 miles from a distribution center. I’ve ordered things early in the morning (6am) and had them on my porch by dinnertime.
I was going to say that Entergy does that in some areas. I forgot that you are from around here.
I wasn’t aware of these programs, just got done reading about them, pretty interesting and pretty good method to create a delivery service rapidly.
Note:
The url above is for delivery businesses. You must have a van with min 300 cubic feet, drivers must be employees of delivery company and must where uniform.
The other program is called Flex that is for average joe using whatever car they feel like, no uniform, etc.
And all the little old ladies on the “Neighborhood” app begin posting messages about “Strange man with packages!”
