Exactly the result the hoaxers aimed for.
And already being discussed: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=372314
Not sure, but the guy who wrote the original article sure never studied journalism.
Have you looked at Amir Taheri’s bio?
This is not some "Tony Snow’ you’re talking about. Even the US Department of State uses Taheri’s stuff
This indeed appears to be correct. Regardless of Mr. Taheri’s credentials, however, there is no question that he is member of an organization promoting a (western) neo-conservative viewpoint, that the Iranian government categorically denies his claim, that other interested parties have attempted to confirm it but cannot, that the publication in which the article first appeared has issued a retraction, and that therefore the story, at the moment, appears to be false.
If this issue has indeed been debated as recently as Monday, in open session the Majlis, it should be perfectly easy for independent third parties to determine whether the subject of color-coding of people of different religious faiths had been discussed.
I’ll just mention, however, that it does appear the Majlis is serious about imposing a highly restrictive national dress code for all Iranians. That’s bizarre enough, in my view, without all the other stuff, and handily beats our periodic attempts to ban flag-burning on the scale of legislative silliness.
The story is false. It never happened, according to the latest reports.
Yup, Taheri struck his blow for war, and now his friends’ll work to minimize the consequences for him while continuing to slag Iran with whatever they can.
And everyone will conveniently forget that it was retracted. Then, later on, it will be dredged up to justify another preemptive “kill for peace” misadventure.
What a fscinating article.
That guy sure knows what he’s talking about. Or at least which party line he’s being paid to spin.
Thoroughly in keeping with the Post’s usual journalistic standards.
I read the article and winced…not because of any imminent threat to our freedoms or safety, but because it is a horrid example of tabloid journalism (whatever country it comes from) at it’s very best.
If only people would stop READING that shit, it might go away, right? RIGHT??
