Oh, I meant to add that I learned why the cops were there so fast. I think they were running DWI traps (on Easter Sunday night, no less!) on the street that dead-ends with my house. I was exhausted, having not gotten much sleep the night before and having driven from Albuquerque to Las Cruces non-stop (only 3.5 hours but still), as well as going to bed early as I have an 8:30 AM class on Mondays. Between that and that I’ve pretty much inurned myself to traffic while sleeping, it took a while for the banging to wake me up and didn’t wake up properly until I heard the crash, as I’d been asleep for a couple hours. Turns out a neighbor saw the guy kicking my door for a while and then called the cops once he saw the window break. As the cops were right there, I guess the only delay was the dispatch time.
So, I guess I’m a little mad at myself that I didn’t wake up in time to catch the guy before he took out my window. Though I’m not sure what I would’ve done had I caught him in time and realized just how wasted he really was. I’d say he was probably a danger to himself and there is no way I’d’ve let him crashed at my house. Called the cops myself on a nuisance complaint, perhaps, and let them stick him in the drunk tank the next morning, and not press charges for tresspassing or the like (though I bet he’d still get charged with public intoxication.)
