I feel you brother and I still live in Chicago.
For perhaps the first time in this campaign I’ll make an allegation of racism. Looking at the county by county polls, and wherever Hillary has slaughtered Barack in both NC and IN, it’s sickening how often those counties are well over 90% white and rural. I won’t say that race is the sole reason, but it can’t be coincidence alone.
Just listened to Obama’s victory thank-you speech at Reynolds Coliseum, NCSU in Raleigh – in which he congratulated HRC for her win in Indiana. Nice speech, portending a “clean” campaign on his part – though it did have a fair amount of “glittering generalisties” in it. (Carter Wrenn, state GOP strategist who looks like what Boss Hogg would after getting a makeover, seemed to pick up on this – and also pointed out the racial mix of votes in the two states, suggesting to me that the Pubbies plan to fight dirty.)
Best line of the night, though, goes to State Sen. Pat Mahan, who just got the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senator in the campaign: “You know what I want to do for Liddy Dole? I want to buy her a nice pair of ruby red slippers, and then tell her to put them on, close her eyes, click her heels together three times, and go back to Kansas with Bob.”
Currently it’s absolutely impossible for him to lose by more than 5% in Indiana. That’s not terribly far off from a defeat for Hillary. The screams for Michigan and Florida to be counted are going to be louder than ever.
MSNBC now reporting midnight EDT (so maybe I was wrong earlier) before any returns from Lake County start coming in.
And the screaming for MI and FL to count in this forum begins in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…
CNN also said that might happen.
Kaye Hagan, actually. Which somewhat disappoints me, because I was cheering Jim Neal on from way up here in PA.
A (black) student keeping up with the election with me (I’m at work) just said “The polls in Lake must close at 7:00 p.m. Black People Time.” (Does it make me racist that I laughed out loud at that [especially since if true it confirms I have black ancestry]?)
To be fair the black vote falls massively in favor of Obama.
Goes both ways.
Although to be fair as an African-American voter Obama is their best choice anyway. Even if they were voting on issues alone and disregarded race they’d likely swing for Obama (just probably not as completely as they do).
As an aside when I was dating a girl who went to Indiana University we drove through a town in southern Indiana that had a sign up (not official) that said, “Nigger don’t let the sun go down on you here”. My GF later went to a friend’s house down in that area and told me the chit-chat was so racist she had to leave (they would boast about beating the crap out of some black guy among other things). Long story short I am not surprised that racist overtones appear in parts of Indiana. That is not meant to impugn the whole state by any means but I am not surprised some areas exhibit racism in the polls.
Anyone got a link yet to this apparent epic fail that Lanny Davis had on CNN? Pretty much all I’ve watched tonight is MSNBC and I missed it. As described in a different forum:
“Anderson Cooper openly mocking Davis, panel of pundits laughing along with him. Also suggests Obama will lose Massachusetts. You know you’ve reached the bottom barrel of plausible spin when you’re claiming your Democratic candidate is better suited to win Massachusetts than the other guy.”
Well, if you really want to look for racism; I’ll be Obama is getting over 90% of the black vote.
I really think that is HRC’s next play. IIRC the Democrat Rules Committee (or something like that) meets May 31. Supposedly they will sort whether to seat Michigan and Florida delegations. Howard Dean said he wanted to find a way to get them to the floor but does not think it would be fair to change the rules on the candidates at this late point (so does not want to affect the current election results).
Guess we’ll have to wait and see. My belief is the Clintons wield a lot of political power and could call in favors. Don’t know if that will be enough but I expect them to try their best on that count.
Dinner and a movie first, my friend.
Lincoln Square! Grossinger Pontiac! Ravenswood El!
NORTH SIDE! REPRESENT!
I wants me some returns.
Does it really even matter if Hillary hangs on to win or not? Anything within 3 or 4 points either way is a delegate wash and essentially a win for Obama. The official “winner” is kind of academic. I don’t know why the media attaches so much significance to it.
This is a good night for Barack regardless of how IN ultimately gets called (and I’m assuming Hillary will win it). Her gains in PA are wiped out, she’s out of delegate heavy states and she has virtually no shot at winning an overall popular vote.
I think we’re going to see more supers lining up with Obama this week, but I’m still not holding my breath for HRC to get out before every last pledged delegate is elected.
She’s “broken the tie,” huh? God, she’s full of shit sometimes.
Whelp…HRC is not throwing in the towel.
sigh Didn’t really expect it but still…
Sometimes?

Black Democrats have consistently proven their willingness to vote for white candidates. Over and over again.
What’s gotten Obama such a huge share of the black vote, and not just a huge share, but a huge black turnout, is the fact that large numbers of white people also support him. End the large scale white support, and you will end a lot of the black support too. Hillary’s been unable to do that, and the fault lies largely with her.
Al Sharpton never got these kind of numbers with black voters. Neither did Doug Wilder or Carol Mosley Braun.
I wonder if she’ll congratulate BHO on winning NC. he always congratulates her on her wins, but she never returns the favor.
Is it still mathematically possible for Obama to pull this off with just Lake left and 85% reporting?
