Next "Wheel of Time" book out in Jan 03

Anyone getting excited about it? I used to, a few volumes back. But since RJ got too powerful to submit to useful editing, I must admit my enthusiasm has waned. Nonetheless, I will buy it, read it, and do hope to see the plot move at least marginally closer to Tarmon Gaidon. Or at least see who Rand boinks next.

Elayne, of course. Isn’t she due to be bumped around the bed a little?

I am actually looking forward to the next book, only because it will be one closer to the end. I really don’t remember much of the last 2 or 3 anyways. Path of Daggers had a lot of riding through the woods on a horse, and Winters Heart - I know we finally found Mat. He is without a doubt the character keeping the whole book going, IMHO.

I was reminded in lab the other day that

They cleaned saidin at the end of Winters Heart

I didn’t remember that AT ALL, and yet you’d think it would be a pretty important thing to remember!

I’ll probably at least reread Winters Heart over Xmas break, and catch up on the tWOT FAQ otherwise. I was actually reading some of it tonight - I never guessed at all who Moridin was, or Slayer (well, one thing about him), or even Cyndane! But basically, yeah, I’m looking forward to it enough to read it when it comes out!

I’m not very excited either, though I have read them all up through Winter’s Heart. I’ll probably wait for the paperback or read it from the library.

At this point I have a hard time keeping track of all the secondary characters, and even where the major characters are, where they’re going, and why. Even more so since most of them have learned how to teleport. We’ll move into somebody’s POV, and I think–wait, umm, let’s see, they’re on their way to [major city] to meet [so-and-so], unless he’s dead already and I forgot…Complex world-building is nice, but Jordan makes my head hurt sometimes. His magic system is getting needlessly complicated and I don’t think any of his readers are going to remember all the vague prophecies and foretellings long enough to notice when they come true.

Well, it has been a few years since Winter’s Heart (a friend loaned me the hardcover a few weeks after it came out) so I suppose all the exposition/filler will be useful.

Dear Mr. Jordan,

Please quit reincarnating dead characters.

Sincerely,
Me

(But I am looking forward to A Feast for Crows in what, May '03?)

Hey, mnemosyne, I think Elayne and Rand were knockin’ boots in Winter’s Heart…didn’t her “sisters” get off, too, or something ooky like that? But I had also forgotten about your “pretty important thing.”

Amazon lists the date as April 1, 2003. George R R Martin insists that the book is not finished, even though the(very cool) cover is up on Amazon. He hopes to get it out for that release date, though.

I’ve invested so much time in the series that I feel like I have to keep reading them. I barely remember what’s going on, but I hold out some vain hope that this one will be just as utterly awesome as the first several were when I started reading them a bazillion years ago. Even when the “pretty important thing” happened, I didn’t get that much of a thrill.

Oh well, there’s still a soft spot in my heart for Perrin, even though we haven’t seen much of him in awhile, IIRC. And Mat just keeps getting cooler.

I’m also both dreading and looking forward to it. I got tired of the whole thing a couple books ago, but I feel like I’ve invested so much time into the series that I have to read them all. One thing I won’t do, though, is spring for a hardcover, so I probably won’t wind up reading it 'til late next year. That’ll give me the luxury of seeing what the TM thought of the book.

Eh, I still like the series. It’s such a long time between books, that when I hear a new one is coming out, I start re-reading the series from Book 1. This time, I actually started re-reading them in early September, because the original release date was December, when I found they moved it back to January, I had to slow myself down in order to not finish before the next one comes out. I can usually time it so that I finish the last one I have either a few days before the newest one is released, or a few days after.

This helps me refresh my memory on all the plot twists, and characters. Of course that means that the first 4 books or so are getting to be very familiar.

The next one is finally coming out? I’ll believe it when I see it.

If Jordan would just simplify a little bit, he’s be able to turn out books as quickly as Stephen King. But nooooo, he’s got to have everything so damn complex! It’s not hard to follow, but it leaves a lot of loose ends that he’s going to have trouble cleaning up.

Any chance of a 4some, with Rand, Elayne, Min, and Aviendha? Now that would make the wait worthwhile!

I am definately looking forward to it. Winter’s heart re-energized the series for me. The cleansing of Saidin was way cool. And yeah, Rand and Elayne did finally …er… weave their flows… early in that book. Aviendha, Min, and Birgitte all felt a bit of it too, due their various bonds. That’s getting to be quite a tangled web. I’m waiting for Birgitte to kill one of Alanna’s warders and have the whole lot of them collapse on the ground.

Also, I hope that Faile finally escapes so we don’t have to hear about her naked in the snow anymore.

And the whole Queen Morgase in hiding plot is getting old too. She’s gotta make herself known soon.

Gotta see Mat tame his daughter of the nine moons, too…

I fear we’ve got one more resurrection to look forward to, but I hope that’s the last.
