So I’m at the website of [url = “http://www.tor.com/scheduletor.html”]Tor Books and I see that there’s a Robert Jordan book listed to be published in November. Funny. I thought I would have heard about it before now. And the title (Winter’s Heart) doesn’t really sound like a WoT book. Well, here’s hoping it is.
And here’s hoping REALLY HARD that it’s a hell of a lot better than the last couple. The optimist in me (who, incidentally, is nearly dead from lack of nourishment) is hoping it took this long because he’s getting back on track. I give him two more crappy books before I give up on this series, which had so much promise to begin with.
Winter’s Heart is a WoT book. Yes, it will be out in November. I hope it doesn’t suck, and if Mat’s not in it, I will have to go to South Carolina and beat RJ up for messing around with my favorite character too much.
I’m lucky, though, cause I don’t have to buy the book - I can borrow it from my store, and if it sucks, no bitching about the wasted $25. On an unrelated WoT note, a special version of the first book, Eye of the World, is now on sale for $3.99, so if you’ve trashed/lost your copy, like me, it’s a good time to get a new one.
I’ve known for months that ‘winters heart’ was coming out in November (the 7th to be precise)…all you have to do is check at amazon.com - they tell you this kinda stuff
And as for the last few books…I think they all kicked ass - how can you not like how he left things at the end of ‘Path of Daggers’ - the best set up for the next book of all the WOT books - yes i missed Mat but he will be back and the White Tower war can only be a good thing
6:1 odds the plot goes like this: Rand goes crazier and nearly kills one of his women. Rebel Aes Sedai reach the gates of Tar Valon, but that’s it. Rand’s channeling dudes (keep in mind it’s been ages since I’ve read these books) kill more Aes Sedai. Rand’s army advances 200 yards. Perrin gets hurt while trying to find Faile, who realizes her father is in line with the evil dudes from across the sea. The prophet kills people. Matt kicks more ass and deals and begins to find Moraine and that forsaken she got lost with. 6 days pass. (btw, the aes sedai travel to Tar Valon.)
Fun, huh?
Btw, kyla, I’ve gotta go with you on that one, Mat, with the possilbe exception of the glee-dude, is the man
Lastly, the series has sort of sucked since book 6…
Man, is it book publishing season or what? Seeing that this was coming out, I looked around some more, and within months, we’ve got the next installments of the Terry Goodkind “Sword of Truth” series, Wheel of Time (at last!!), and the George RR Martin “Song of Ice and Fire” series. Throw in the fact that I’ll have to reread one or two of each to get back into the storyline, and I’ve got my reading for the rest of the year! And that’s not even including the Tom Clancy, which is a different genre, so I won’t mention it here…
Anyone else read the newest installment of the Sword of Truth yet? I have to say I was very disappointed with the very very very thinly veiled anti-communism claptrap. I mean, this is a fantasy novel, I don’t want to hear about Terry Goodkind’s political views!
But the last book in Robin Hobb’s Liveship Trilogy (which also just came out) ROCKED. If anyone else has read that, I would love to discuss it with them, she put such an amazing hint in the book, I have to speculate upon it with someone.
Oh, and yeah, it is publishing season. Warming up for Christmas, ya know.
Folks are saying that they will hang on for another bad book or two in the series…doesn’t ANYONE but me want him to wrap it up already? I want to know how it comes out, damnit. Just color me impatient.
The last 2 (maybe 3) books could have been condesced into 1, and left nothing out. Jordan is clearly marking time & stretching things out. It has gotten ridiculous.
I’m looking forward to the next book. However, I’m with the groups that says “finish it already!” It reminds me of the byplay between Michaelangelo and Pope Whatever in “The Agony and the Ecstasy”:
Pope: When will you make an end?
Michelangelo: When I am finished.
