NFC East 2006 - 2007 [NFL]

Guess I should finish that thought…
Anyway, that might just be the soreness talking. I think Tiki is too much a competitor to hang it up now, when he is at the top of his game and the game. However, he’s right to start considering what he’ll be doing in the very near future.

My prediction: he’s back next season and very likely the season after.

WOO-HOO! (Awaits the trifecta.)

Funny ranting from a Redskins fan:

Early Vegas Line

Bye Week @ Washington (+7)

Funny, I was going to say that. However, I think our opinions on what constitutes a trifecta disagree.

This will be the perfect weekend if the Tuna loses tonight.

LOL

Damn.

I hope we get to play spoiler for some of you mugs - here’s hoping!

Damn.

The only way that’s happening is if you run across Michael Strahan and tell him…Rosebug was a sled, the chick in The Crying Game was actually a dude, and Bruce Willis was dead the entire time.

Be nice, Hal. All right-minded NFC East fans sincerely hope that the Redskins beat the Cowboys and the Iggles in their upcoming games. It will relieve some of the pressure, allowing the Giants to only take 5 of 6 East games. Heck, if Oakland can win a game and the Texans can beat the Jaguars, the Giants might be able to lose an NFC East match.

See, the planets have lined up for our state this week, what with the Longhorns winning, Tampa Bay drilling a 62 with :04 to down Philly, Indy rolling over the Skinnys and the Texans dropping Jack in convincing fashion. Sorry Giants but the Cowboys are the final piece of the planetary puzzel. It’s a cosmic guarantee.

Tampa Bay won that game specifically for the Giants. You can’t count that. The kicker, Matt Bryant - ex-Giant. And did you notice the name of the Buccaneer with the two touchdowns? Do you think he really was out there to help the Cowboys? He scored those for his twin. Recheck your telescope, lieu. That’s not a planet, that’s a smudge.

Heh…all I could think when that game winner went through was “I’d love that you put the screws to those Philly Scumbirds, but damnit, why couldn’t you put on performances like that when you were wearing blue???”

Romo’s looking good.

Not so much there.

How about now?

Yeah, there either.

Better, I guess.

**Giants ** 4-3 .571 leading on Tie Breakers of Divisional Wins and Head to Head
Philadelphia 4-3 .571
Dallas 3-3 .500
Washington 2-5 .286

36-22 **Giants **in a strange but fun game with a great result.

The Giants are actually 4-2, not 4-3. They are also 3-0 in the division, two of those on the road. So far the Colts and Redskins games are the only home games the Giants have played, while going to Philadelphia, Seattle, Atlanta and Dallas.

So the murderer’s row beginning of the schedule is now over, having played 6 tough teams (I’m throwing the Redskins a bone here) with four of them on the road to start the season.

Coming out of that stretch 4-2 is a remarkable achievement. Even better is that one of the two losses (to Seattle) is not a common game, so that won’t count against Big Blue in divisional tiebreakers. The other loss (to the Colts) won’t count against Wildcard tiebreakers. If you had to pick two games to lose, those were the ideal two to pick.

The only down note is that Lavar is done for the season.

Giants played pretty well. Dallas played like crap. Good game.

I was expecting Romo in the second half. Despite the interceptions, he probably offers the best hope for Dallas. Give him a chance to settle in as a starter, and he should do well. Although starting him half way through a Monday night division game trailing at halftime just before heading into a 3 game road trip is not the best scenario.

I don’t care for one of Parcells’ post-game comments on Romo. A reporter asked something about whether Romo will take some time to play well. Bill said that he hopes not because Romo has been in Dallas for 4 years. Yes, Bill, but Romo has never thrown a real NFL pass until last week.

I agree with Parcells.

It appears that most QBs who ride the pine for a couple years avoid most of the mistakes that even highly touted rookies make. Chad Pennington is the poster boy for this phenomenon, who rode the bench for two years, and then when he finally got in a game he played the rest of the season and posted the highest passer rating in the league. Phillip Rivers looks to be doing the same thing in San Diego this year. Marc Bulger is another example (from the same draft as Pennington) but is even more compelling because he was a late round draft pick.

Basically, my hypothesis is that once you’ve been through two offseasons as a backup, if you have any potential as a starter it will show itself very quickly. Can anyone think of any counter-examples to disprove this idea? Are there any examples of the following type of quarterback?[ul][li]Rode the bench for at least two full seasons[/li][li]Struggled like a rookie when he finally got a starting job[/li][*]Later in his career, even if he went to a different team, performed well as a starter[/ul]
