Cheap shots aside, that whole issue is a crock, IMO. It certainly didn’t prevent the 49ers from winning their Superbowls, and they even shared a division with the Falcons.
I’m talking about this season. Teams from the Pacific time zone are what – 0-11, 0-12, something like that – when visiting the east this year.
It’s still a crock. Air travel is not suddenly harder in 2008 than it was in 2007, whatever the ESPN nimrods say…
All the west coast teams suck this year is a much more likely explanation.
Exactly, the AFC West is terrible, and the NFC West is historically awful. Meanwhile the two Eastern Divisions are solid (or better) from top to bottom.
I said at this point. They lost to the Saints and Broncos, too, but that was a different team.
True, since they’ve lost their starting RB and managed to crush the mighty Chiefs by 3 points, the Vikings by 6 and shone fear into the heart of every team in the league by beating the juggernaut that is the Detroit Lions.
Eagles up 21-zip midway through the second. Shut my mouth right the hell up…
With every completion, McNabb must be puting out a mental “Hey fair weather fans…fuck each and every one of your sorry asses”. Sure as hell can’t blame him.
The surest sign of a bad decision maker is making a decision based on large amounts of data, but then changing his mind on small amounts of new data, just because it is new.
Took me year to sour on Reid; one win over a mediocre team doesn’t change my mind in the least. Anyone who would is an idiot.
What a performance by the Boys yesterday!! Yeah, I know, it was against the 2-9 Seahawks, but honestly, that always seems to be when Dallas struggles. The “weaker” team plays like they’re in the Super Bowl and Dallas plays like it’s the preseason.
Well, not this time! Seven sacks, the most in a single game since 1997, and not one touchdown allowed. And no slow starts for our offense, as we had Sunday against the Niners.
There is a downside to all of this–Barber and Ware left with injuries and we fans can only hope that it’s not too serious. Also, I’m now in the unthinkable position of having to root for both the Giants and the Saints this week!
So basing your decision on one game v. the rest of the season is a bad idea, but basing your decision on 3/4 of a season v. the previous ten seasons is a good one?
I think that makes you a “bad decision maker”.
Well, last season wasn’t so hot, either.
Well, no, but as someone here (Jules Andre, mebbe) pointed out, they were in the top 10 in total offense and total defense, so the record wasn’t exactly representative of how they played.
Or perhaps they indicate Andy’s game management skills, which have never seemed that good.
:::does turkey sack dance:::
- 3/4 of a season is a pretty significant data set – 12 times better than a single game, in fact.
- There was a typo in my last post – it was supposed to say “took me years to sour on Reid.” Meaning I came to the conclusion based on where they stood now but, taking in everything.
FWIW, there was a thread this offseason where I said it might be time for the Eagles to think seriously about moving McNabb. So, no, it’s not something I just came up with.
Apparently upset that he wasn’t the most talked about wide reciever in the NFC East, Plaxico Burress manage to shoot himselfin the leg. Good job, Plax!
This is such amazingly good news, what a genius.
Anyone thinks this might be grounds to void his contract?
How much would the Giants have to eat if they just released him?
It’s not enough money that they can’t risk their season by largely succeeding this year without him.
Last year it was Shockey, and they won the SB without his malcontent ass.
This year, Plax has been absent from games more often than not, even in ones he’s played in except for the first two games this season…If I were Coughlin and/or Giants ownership I’d cut him a check and wish him well.
I don’t particularly like the Giants, but they play well as a team outside their supposed “star” players and seem to have their shit together.
The Giants won the Superbowl in improbable fashion last year, and are now 10-1. Plax played a huge role last season, but…this season is reminding me of what good franchises are capable of (Patriots, Now the Giants, Steelers) that they perpetuate excellence through keen ownership, good drafting, not overpaying for FA’s, good coaching and most importantly to my argument, great team depth.
The Giants are 10-1 mostly without Plaxico’s services or in spite of his distractions.
I would move on without him at this point. He doesn’t fit the model.
Lump him in with TO and Chad Johnson. More trouble than they are worth.
I certainly hope the Giants’ management feels differently.
A) With Plaxico as their #1, the Giants have great depth at WR. Without him, they just don’t. Without Plax *and *any one of Toomer/Smith/Hixon, they suddenly have a big problem at WR.
B) He just signed a 5 year extension. Cutting him would be expensive.
C) And how troublesome has he really been? He missed a few meetings, which obviously is unacceptable and shouldn’t happen, but in the grand scheme of things is not a huge deal. Accidentally shooting himself is somewhat more troubling, but, again, is not the end of the world: he’s not hurting other people, and there’s no reason to think he’s some sort of recidivist. There’s a very good chance he gets his act together and has a mostly controversy-free career from this point on. This (probably) isn’t a Cris Henry or Pacman Jones-style life-crash. No reason to cut bait yet.
