Apparently the Rams are that bad and maybe the **Giants **have decided to stop playing down to the competition.
Well that was a tight, scary nail-biter of an exciting game.
Giants, 3-0!
Thank you for beating the shit out of Ben. Good day.
Which Ben?
The one with the name too long to want to type it on an iPod.
Giants over Bengals, Eagles over Steelers, Cowboys over Packers, Redskins over Cardinals…
I’m going to have to start up the division rankings thread again. The NFC East is too good not to.
As of now, there are only 1 or 2 games the rest of the season that the NFC East would not be favored in.
There is a big gap between them and the second best conference.
Can anyone explain what defensive delay of game is? It was called on The Eagles yesterday.
The times I’ve seen it, it is usually near the end of the game when the offense is trying to hurry and the defense is trying to run the clock down. When the defense takes a really long time to get off the offensive players after a play is done or they swat or spike the ball, delay of game can be called on them. With the new huddle rules, there might be a DoG call if they have too many men, but I can’t ever recall having seen that called on the defense.
What kc said. It’s any action by the defense to slow or prevent the offense from snapping the ball. Usually it gets called if a defender doesn’t immediately get off an offensive player so he (the offensive guy) can run back to the huddle, or if a defender throws the ball away so the line judge can’t immediately spot it.
The ref did a terrible job with that delay of game call, and the asshole TV coverage just ignored it, so I’m not entirely sure what happened, but I assume, since they called it on Mike Patterson, that they called him for bluffing at the offensive line and causing the offensive line to false start, which you aren’t allowed to intentionally do. Maybe he was yelling “Hike” or something, or maybe he was kind of repeatedly flinching at the center; something like that.
The only other possibility is that he slapped the ball away from the center’s hand, but it sure didn’t seem like that was what happened.
In my experience, this week was typical Giants football. Against good teams, the Giants seem to frequently dominate their opponent, but keep them in the game with field goals from the red zone and turnovers, then blow it in the second half. Against bad teams, however, the Giants tend to play down to the level of their opponent and either win or lose a squeaker. They probably played a little better than Cincy, but that they got taken to overtime by a bad team was was not a fluke given the quality of play.
That said, on balance I think the Giants look very good this year, and I feel better about them than I did prior to Week 1. The next three games are: Sea, @Cle, SF – they could easily start 6-0. Then they have @Pit, Dal, @Phi, Bal, and could easily be 6-4 or 7-3.
I can’t take offense at my beloved bungling Bengals being called a bad team as they sit morosely at 0-3, but we aren’t a “bad” team in terms of offensive talent. Carson, TJ, Chad and Perry are as good as anybody. We just don’t have a defense that can rush the passer. If you didn’t notice, Eli had all day and your front seven kept mopping the field with Palmer…and in spite of that the game went into OT.
I really thought the Bengals screwed themselves out of a win at the end of regulation by wasting so much time setting up for what would have been a game-clinching TD. They really should have had two shots at the end zone there, but they mismanaged their time.
And for chrissakes, why oh WHY did we revert to the running game when we got the ball in OT? Both teams were carving each other up in the passing game, and the bengals ran it up the middle twice (even though Perry was shut down for the entire second half) for no gainers.
Ah my heart bleeds in agony. And we still get to play the Cowboys…whoopeee!
I pretty much agree with the first part of your post, but I think you are wrong about the easily part. The **Giants **have a good chance at 6-0. Those next four games should be at worst 2-2 not 0-4 or even 1-3.
I think the **Giants ** are more likely to go 3-1 in that stretch than 1-3. The **Giants ** can beat Dallas especially at home. They can beat Pit and Philly and they can beat the Ravens at home. Philly has some holes in there game that I think the **Giants ** can exploit. Of course the Eagles can exploit some holes the **Giants ** have.
I don’t think the Ravens or Steelers are better than the **Giants **. Why do you think so?
Because he’s a dour Giants fan. Duh.
I’m not convinced the Bengals are a bad team. Week 1 they were all banged up and out of sync from missing time in the preseason, and week 2 they played in a hurricane. (Wasn’t their game the one with 40 mph winds?)
I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see them have a winning record for the remainder of the season. (7-6 or better.)

How do you see the Giants doing over the next seven? I think 8-2 after 10 games is a reasonable expectation at this point.
It was 70mph wind gusts. Millions of people lost power in our area, some still don’t have it back on. That game was insane.
The Ratbirds game was a travesty too. Awesome defense meets completely unprepared team, with the help of former oline stalwart Willie Anderson giving cues to the defensive coaches of the Rats on the sidelines.
Ahh, 0-3, how I know ye…familiar stench.
A question for my fellow Giants fans:
So, you were watching the game, and it was closer than expected – certainly much closer than you’d like. However, when it came down to the mid-4th-quarter, and then into overtime, was there ever a moment that you were in the least bit worried the Giants might lose?
Gotta say, when it gets late in a close game, I have 100% faith that they’re going to do what needs to be done to get that win. They’ll give a couple of quick “AUGH! NO!” moments, but when it comes down to it, they’ve got to be looked at as the best “game is on the line right here” team in the league.
Well, I haven’t advanced as far as you, but I have been watching the Giants grasp defeat from the jaws of victory since the early 70s. However, this team, with Eli does have me expecting them to find a way to win with the offense. That is a novel feeling.
