Broke 4000 yards for the first time
Career best completion percentage (62.3)
Career best touchdowns (27)
Career best YPA by a full yard (7.9, compared to previous high of 6.8)
Given all that, obviously posted career best passer rating (93.1)
On the flip side:
Gave up most sacks in his career (30)
Matched most fumbles in career (13)
Lost most fumbles of his career (8)
The biggest change was that he didn’t play terribly in December, which he had every other year in his career. While the wind is still not his friend, he didn’t seem completely incompetent late in the season at Giants Stadium, which is a big improvement. Compare his December rating this year of 107.4 to his career average in December of 74.8. Even in the last two games of the season when the Giants clearly quit in embarassing fashion he posted a combined 80.18, still better than his December average.
EDIT: Note that the career December average of 74.8 includes this year’s 107.4, so you can imagine how truly pathetic he’s been in December. Like Tony Romo, Eli finally had a good December. So that’s definitely encouraging for a Giants fan desperate to find a silver lining.
Well, that’s pretty much the same as all of Eli’s other years. He’s about the 11th rated passer pretty much always and forever. That said, 11th without Plaxico is pretty heartening.
Overrated I can understand (I mean, as much as a Super Bowl MVP can be overrated, anyway), but what about the “prick” part? If it’s just smack talk, that’s fine by me. But I’m honestly puzzled about the dislike many people have for him.
I have to figure it stems from A) the draft day moves, and/or B) the fact that he’s a Manning – because beyond that, I can’t see a thing there. It’s not like he talks a lot of trash or acts like a douche in public.
Compare him to Philip Rivers or Tony Romo, who act like they’re still playing high school ball when they’re not on the field, and who have that “I’m the definition of smarmy fuckwad” face that your best friend’s 19-year-old older brother who you just just wanted to smack with a brick had. Those are players I see as “overrated pricks”. Eli, I just don’t get it.
I didn’t include his rookie season not just because it was his rookie season, but more importantly it wasn’t good enough to get him onto yahoo’s stat page. So worse than the 33rd ranked passer, and quite probably much worse than 33rd.
Nailed it in one. Like I said, I don’t follow Eli, and I’ve seen only a few of his games, so I haven’t been exposed to anything that would undo my distaste for his actions leading up to his draft.
I was perfectly willing to let you enjoy your smack talk until this. How can any Giants fan possibly think Rivers sucks in the clutch? All he’s ever done is win his division every year, never bother to lose a single game in December, win at least one playoff game every year except his first, he’s beaten Peyton Manning each of the last two playoffs…
Philip Rivers does have a very punchable face, and from what I hear he’s a douche. Anyway, winning the AFC West every year is hardly a great achievement.
So you’d be impressed if he won another division instead? Maybe something in the other conference? Maaaaaaybe the one everyone seems to think is the best in football?
Joy. Apparently an employee of the Eagles was taping a look around Cowboy Stadium prior to the game for the website and decided to spit on the star in the middle of the field twice, saying the Cowboys deserved it.
Of course, he now apologizes and says he wasn’t trying to insult the Cowboys. Sure, and I’ll be he didn’t have sex with that woman.
The only people who think the NFC East is the best division in football are NFC East fans. For my money the AFC South has been the best division in football for the last five years; even its fourth-placed team usually isn’t more than a game or two below .500.
Uh, yeah, this is one of the reasons the NFC East is the best division in football. You’re aware that before thsi year the East hadn’t had a losing record since 2006, right? Here’s a list of the worst record for both divisions in the last four years:
I know you said five years but I only listed four to prop up the South. You could go back further, but the South’s worst division was terrible prior to 06. We’re talking 2-14 bad. If this is truly your criteria for a best division, it’s odd that you would put the South ahead of the East. Seems biased.
It’s not the only criterion. It’s just the one I happened to mention. The best team in the AFC South is nearly always better than the best of the NFC East, too.
