NFL 2020: Week 17

Redzone says today has more TDs than any other day on Redzone out of like 12 years.

Ty Montgomery, the wide receiver who was forced into duty as a running back in 2016, when he was with the Packers, who had suffered a bunch of injuries to their RBs, and has been a hybrid WR/RB since, did the same for the Saints today, after their entire RB corps was ruled out due to COVID protocols. Montgomery ran for 105 yards on 18 carries. Not bad!

The 11-5 Browns had a point differential on the season of -11. That’s unprecedented.

To be fair, the Bears were 4 for 4 on 4th down before that one play, including a play action pass that got them the first down.

The QB sneak they ran 2 other times was converted easily. Run it until they stop it. 4th and inches out of the gun is stupidity with this personnel.

Not unexpected, but my favorite NFL player, Larry Fitzgerald announced his retirement. Kinda glad he didn’t go to Minnesota as he was rumored to.

I’m not sure any HOF receiver played with a worse collection of QBs throughout his career.

Eagles are tanking so hard right now. Hurts was doing okay so they put in Sudfeld to fuck everything up. Philly is literally going to just lay down the rest of the game.

Hurts’ stat line: 7 for 20, 72 yards, 0 td, 1 int.

That’s not even close to doing OK.

I’d blame that on the playcalling. He was shredding them on the ground and suddenly they decided to throw every snap, and then he’s out of the game and Sudfeld gets put in to throw up ducks. Only WFT’s ineptness is keeping the Eagles in the game.

Did the Eagles lose on purpose as a fuck you to the Giants, or just for draft pick, or what?

I believe they gained 3 spots in the draft, to 6th.

Well, at the very least, WFT doesn’t need to worry about Brady running outside on them.

Reportedly the Eagles always planned to pull Hurts, regardless of how the game was going. That’s supposedly their way of saying this wasn’t throwing the game, but to me that means that their biggest priority wasn’t to win, which is pretty much throwing the game.

Hurts may not have been playing like the next Patrick Mahomes, but all of the 14 points that the Eagles put up were from him running the ball into the end zone. He was the only one scoring. Pulling him is like saying that you don’t want to score anymore.

Oh, also you are gifted an interception that puts you in the red zone, you are down 3 points, it is 4th down at the goal, and you don’t choose the almost automatic field goal to tie the game late. This is a team that didn’t want to win.

Tank to screw over the Giants (or the Cowboys, had DAL won) and also get better drafting.

I don’t see how the NFL prevents tanking, but if I were the NYG or their fans, I’d be pretty pissed right now. I think Suds was trying to be the best QB he could be, and I could have seen using him if the game were out of hand or even a possession or two just to see how he’d play, but after his second possession it was pretty clear he was not ready for prime time and Hurts was playing as well as I’ve seen him play, at either pro or college level.

(Eagles fan)
Hard to believe a 6-10 team that ended their season 1-3 is blaming an even worse 4-10-1 team (who also ended their season 1-3) for not doing enough to help them win the Division… clearly the worst Division in football, in many many ways, and among them is the Eagles arrogance and management

I tend to agree. If your team goes 6-10, you shouldn’t be able to bitch in the least about not making the playoffs, no matter how much tanking you think occurred.

Just in case you’re not totally burned out by fantasy football or pick ‘ems or survival picks or of NFL football, I created a group, entitled SDMB (I know, I’m super-original), for NFL.com’s playoff challenge.

The gist of it is you pick players you think will score the most fantasy points, and if their team is eliminated, you pick new players. But if their team wins, you get bonus points (2x, 3x, 4x) for as far as they go through the playoffs. So it’s an interesting mix of fantasy and pick ‘em games.

The group website is here: NFL playoff challenge

The group name is SDMB.
The password is: cecil.

Join in if you like. Its one last shot at winning at fantasy football.

As a Giants fan, I agree. None of the teams from the NFC East should rightfully be in the playoffs this year, and it’s total fluke that any of them are. While I would have liked the Giants to get in, it’s pretty meaningless since it probably means just one more loss in the first round. I would have been more amused than proud. The Giants had the tiebreaker over WFT, and if they couldn’t have won one more game they didn’t deserve it.

Interesting article on QBs helping out their players get some incentive money. Only mentioned are Wilson and Brady helping out Moore and Brown respectively, but I’m guessing it happens a lot during the waning games of the season.
