NFL WEEK 13 Assassins

We’re in Thanksgiving week, so a lot of football on Thursday this week. Unfortunately, I’ll be travelling so I will miss some of it. Outside of Jerry Jones needing to grab some attention like the attention whore he is and the Steelers moving on from Mason Rudolph for a bit, there’s not a whole lot of news in this shortened week. Here’s your lineup:

Thursday, November 28th

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions (+3, 39)
Buffalo Bills at Dallas Cowboys (-6.5, 45)
New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons (+6.5, 49)

Sunday, December 1st

Green Bay Packers at New York Giants (+6.5, 45.5)
Washington Redskins at Carolina Panthers (-10, 40)
San Francisco 49ers at Baltimore Ravens (-5.5, 45.5)
Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts (-2.5, 43.5)
Philadelphia Eagles at Miami Dolphins (+9, 45.5)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Jacksonville Jaguars (-1, 48.5)
New York Jets at Cincinnati Bengals (+3.5, 40.5)
Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers (+2, 40)

Los Angeles Rams at Arizona Cardinals (+3, 46.5)
Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs (-9.5, 51.5)
Los Angeles Chargers at Denver Broncos (+2.5, 38.5)

New England Patriots at Houston Texans (+3, 44.5)

Monday December 2nd

Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks (-3, 49)

The Thanksgiving lineup is just OK. I’m a NFC North guy, so the Bears/Lions game would be watchable, but both teams are so mediocre offensively, that game might be painful. The second game is the one I’m most excited to see. I like the Bills, especially their defense, and I dislike Dallas, especially their owner, so I have a bit of a rooting stake. But I also think it will be an interesting game to watch. As I’ve said, I want to see more of Dak Prescott against a good pass defense, and the Bills qualify for that (Tre’Davious White is playing very well and, if he continues to develop, could be one of the best CBs in the league). I hate that the Bills are so reliant on Josh Allen (if only he could play Washington and the Dolphins every game, he’d be great), but if he limits mistakes, he can help them win. Should be fun. Finally, I fully expect the Saints to walk all over Atlanta. The Falcons running game is, thanks to injuries, down to their 3rd and 4th string RB’s and their pass defense got lit up by Jameis “Hand me those Crab Legs” Winston, so it should be quite the shootout. Could be a good watch if you love high scoring games

As for Sunday, Ravens versus 49ers should be the game of the week. I’m very interested to see how the 49ers gameplan for the Ravens. Can Bosa and Armstead to contain Jackson? Can Jackson move enough to buy time for downfield passing? It’ll be a helluva game. The Titans/Colts game has playoff repercussions, but will likely be boring as hell. It might also be fun to watch the Chiefs/Raiders, just to see how Gruden gets his team ready to play.

Monday night’s game should be awesome also. I’m shocked that the over/under is the second highest of the week at 49, but I’ve been wrong before. It will be a big test for both these teams, and a fun game to watch.

Feel free to jump on in.

[sub]I had a rough time deciding if I was going to allow the thread title to have words before the “Week”, ala Week (Friday the) 13th or Week (It was a bright cold day in April and the clocks were striking) 13, but opted against it. Plus, I’m a fan of Miike’s version; it’s a great movie).[/sub]

I’m curious to see how the Lions perform after their loss 2 days ago to the horrible Indigenous Peoples. But I’m not that curious about it. I’m definitely pulling for Buffalo on Thanksgiving Day. Atlanta got thumped last weekend but they also handed the Saints a pretty thorough beating just a couple of weeks ago. Can they do it again? I agree that BAL vs. S.F. is the game of the weekend (at least on paper). Should be a great one. Might it also be a preview of this year’s S.B.? As for next Monday’s game - factors seemingly in favor of the Vikings: they’re coming off of a bye and in their last game they were the “bad” Vikings before coming alive, late, to beat the sorry Broncos which could mean that the “good” Vikings are the ones who’ll come to play in 6 days. Also, Seattle’s lost two games at home already this season so “The Clink” hasn’t been the “fortress” for the ‘hawks this season the way that it usually is. Factors seemingly in the Seahawks’ favor for next Monday: it’s a prime time game and the 'hawks have been pretty good in prime time during Pete Carroll’s time as head coach, plus the defense, since the start of the 2nd quarter against the previously unbeaten 49ers a couple of games ago, has played REALLY well. Should be a good one!

Yum, I heard they taste like Ws.

It turned out to be a dull one.
Bills: “Hey, we’re good enough to beat a mediocre, sloppy team.”
Cowboys: “Hey, we’re that team.”

That team from Texas still hasn’t beaten a team with a winning record all season. {snort}

But the team from Miami has!

Terrelle Pryor in critical condition after being stabbed last night.

Eerie. I propose “NFL WEEK 14 Free Beer” for next week’s thread title.

Well…I’ll be at that Jets game with my son. Normally I can’t afford to go, but tickets are ridiculously cheap right now, and he’s a fan too, soooo…yeah.

Browns at Steelers rematch is going to be brutal and probably ugly.

81% of the pick 'em players on yahoo picked the Steelers. That seems pretty high to me given that the Browns gave them a solid thumping 2 weeks ago.

A sweep would be pretty amazing given that they’ve beaten the Steelers like 4 times in 15 years.

Sucks living in the greater New York viewing area.

For the 1.00ET game, I have a choice between watching the Packers walk all over the useless Giants, and watching the terrible Jets against the even more terrible Bengals. In that latter game, the two teams are a combined 4-18 on the season.

Meanwhile, a few hours further south, a 10-1 team is playing a 9-2 team in what some are predicting as a preview of this year’s Superbowl. But of course, they’re not going to show that.

The Jets aren’t actually terrible. They certainly were for the five games that Luke Falk started, but with Darnold back they’ve been playing rather well. Last week, for example, they beat the ever-living shit out of the Raiders.

Still not a great game, though, so your point stands.

Score isn’t getting out of hand or anything yet but the Browns are dominating the Steelers again. Something like 150 yards to 9. It’s 10-0, but that’s probably all the scoring they need to do to win.

Probably not.

What got into the Bungles? Just seeing the score at the bottom of the real game, but looks like some of them showed up this game?

I admit that I was basing my opinion only on the Jets’ W-L record. I had not watched them play all season.

I’m watching them today, though, and they aren’t exactly providing a lot of support for your argument.

Regardless of who started what, Pittsburgh finished it.

So both 49ers losses this year have been on last-second field goals to playoff teams, and both featured a 49ers field goal miss. I think we’ll be fine.

Wow. Three of the worst teams in the league all won today. How weird.

I give up trying to pick games this year. This is by far my worst year ever since I started keeping track.

Thank God I haven’t put any bets down.

On the plus side, if you’re a fan of a focused, professional team, they stand a good chance of moving through the chaff. So many teams have spit the bit in games they should’ve run away with this year.

Feels like Baltimore’s year. Course, that’ll mean a divisional playoff loss, at this rate.

EDIT: On the bright side, at least we can put the ‘tanking’ in the NFL stories away for this year.
