NFL 2021: Week Fourteen Questions

Clock malfunction?

OMG. It just felt that way.

(29 yards.)

Of course there are 2 OT games after I post this.

Both of which featured an incredible ending.

You have to wonder a bit about Tampa Bay: they blow a 21-point halftime lead, then win it with a touchdown in OT.

Their record and schedule look to give them good post-season seeding, but they’ve turned in some notably unconvincing performances.

Fun late games. The Bills’ pass first/run never offense is fun to watch and great for fantasy. But they’re 7-6. As are the Bengals and Niners after a fun game. Things are getting interesting for sure.

Bears/Packers likely wont hold much interest for long. But I’m playing against Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams in my money fantasy league, so I’ll be torn no matter what happens.

If anything happens to Rogers there done ! Love can’t carry gb

While true, it’s not new news. They haven’t had solid backups at QB for much of Rodgers’ time as the starter, and when he’s suffered injuries and missed time in the past (broken collarbones in 2013 and 2017), their offense has been a shell of its usual self.

Rodgers seems to view competent backups as some kind of personal affront and challenge to his manhood, so that’s not shocking. Prima donnas gonna be difficult, even at the expense of the rest of the team.

So the AFC looks like this:

9-4 NE, TEN, KC
8-5 BALT, LAC
7-6 IND, BUF, CLE, CIN, DEN
6-6-1 PIT
6-7 LV, MIA

Looks like 10-7 should probably get you into the playoffs. The West and North are very up for grabs - if KC beats the Chargers on Thursday then that should give them the division, but if LA wins then it’s wide open.

Packers looked a little shaky in the first half, but put the throttle down after halftime, and Rodgers still appears to own the Bears.

Meanwhile, Urban Meyer (can we say “embattled Urban Meyer”?) denies that he called his coaching staff “losers,” as well as denying that he had an argument with Marvin Jones, leading Jones to walk out and needing to be talked into returning. Further, Meyer says:

It’s interesting he used the word “leaking”. Leaking usually means somebody revealing something. If the screaming match and name calling didn’t happen, you’d think he’d say something more like “starting rumors”.

At the moment, the Colts, at 7-6, are the #6 seed. The Dolphins, at 6-7, are the #13 seed. The next four weeks will be interesting, to say the least.

Agreed. Very interesting, maybe Freudian. My WAG is that it’s completely legitimate and the screaming match certainly took place as reported.

I am not convinced that the AFCN division winner will win a playoff game against a team like say, the Colts. There’s just so much inconsistency. I am biased but if I have to pick a QB to put the ball in his hands to win the game, it’s Burrow out of the rest of them, especially if it’s a playoff game.

In fact, Zac Taylor’s decision to inexplicably take the ball out of Burrow’s hot hand at the end of the game and run a sick, ineffective and gametime decision Mixon behind a line that has been shit run blocking all day against Bosa and company was criminal. After ALL the mistakes the Bengals made to come roaring back only to do that. Geez.

I think the Colts are probably the 3rd or 4th best team in the AFC, behind the Chefs and the Patriots, and about on par with the Chargers. Everyone else is a placeholder.

Fans of the Chefs, like me, would appreciate a Colts victory over the Pats this weekend.

Assuming, of course, that KC can win a tough matchup in LA against the Chargers on Thursday night.

As a Pats fan, I think they are a little overrated at the moment. Things have been breaking their way lately and they found a way to win very important games against the Titans and Bills, but I’m still not quite convinced they are back to being The Real Deal [tm]. I would not be surprised to see a couple of upsets as we head into the final stretch, e.g. against the Colts or even Miami. Should still be a lock for the playoffs, though, which is a good place to be.

Hard to disagree with any of that. The crazy thing is, there’s a strong case to be made that the weakest team in the division is the one in first place right now. The Ravens have really not looked great for like eight weeks.

Their remaining games are against the Packers, Bengals, Rams, and Steelers. Right now even going 2-2 in those games might be a stretch.
