As a Chiefs fan, I agree that it was a terrible missed call. But had the Falcons scored on the next or an ensuing play, they would have gone up 1 or 3 points with about 4 minutes to play. A tough situation to be sure, but certainly not really, really hard to come back from, particularly when the quarterback has a last name of Mahomes.
Speaking of bad calls, early in the second quarter Chris Jones was flagged for a roughing the passer on an absolutely terrible call. That was on a 3rd down incompletion, which would have forced a punt. Instead, the Falcons scored a TD a few plays later.
Not necessarily. A few of the notable ones were. “Well Dressed” Amani Toomer, Miguel “Tejada they come, Tejada they fall”, Jeff Conine “the Barbarian”, Jay Fiedler “on the Roof”.
Joe Alt “Delete” is unfortunately too creative and requires a non-Boomer level of technical proficiency to to ever come from Berman.
First time watching Jayden Daniels in the NFL. After watching Anthony Richardson, Caleb Williams, and Will Levis just suck yesterday, it’s nice to see a young QB play well. He needs to run less (and less aggressively), but he’s impressive so far.
Of course it’s one half of football, so take it for what it’s worth … not much.
He holds the ball waaaay too long waiting for the receiver to come open, just like he did in college. That seems to be a predictive trend - players rarely learn to throw the player open. He does have a big arm and nice feet though.
Through three weeks, there are only 5 undefeated teams. That seems low to me. Does anyone know how that compares to previous seasons, and historical averages?
(I almost asked this question earlier today when there were only 4 teams, but then I noticed the Bills were yet to play.)
As Troy and Buck mentioned the kid played 5 years of high-level NCAA football, this seems like old hat to him. I think it was the playcalling in the first 2 games that was holding him back. He makes good decisions, he doesn’t just throw up desperate balls, he might hold it and run, but that’s the better option IMO, especially if you’re as quick as he is.
He’s not the second coming of Michael Vick, but he doesn’t need to be, and he’s already a much better passer than Vick ever was. His ceiling might not be as high as Caleb Williams, but his floor is clearly much higher than the other QBs drafted in this class. He’s going to be a problem for a while, at least until the Seahawks show up and break him in half. (sorry, still have RG3 PTSD)
That is the first time in a long time I have watched a Commanders game with actual delight. I knew they would collapse at the end, and yet…they didn’t. Also, Daniels was great, obviously, all the way down to waiting for his offensive line to come off the field after the extra point and giving each and every one of them a high five.
He’s pretty special. He and Stroud are going to be the next generation of great QBs who get mentioned all the time. Washington did a great job drafting him.
I don’t recall that about Richardson. In fact, he was injured most of last year. Do you remember how well he did in week 3? He didn’t even play because he was out with a concussion. If you’re talking about hype before the season started, you get that about any QB drafted high.
It was very reminiscent of Justin Fields. This game reminded me a lot of the game in 2022 where Fields and the Bears absolutely trucked the Patriots on MNF. Time will tell if he can keep it up and if defenses will adjust.
