NFL 2024-25: Week 8

Lions drop 52 points on the Titans. It doesn’t seem like it should be possible to score 52 with only 225 yards total offense.

It helps when you have a punt return for a touchdown, gain 72 yards on your one kickoff return, and create four turnovers (two interceptions, two fumble recoveries), while not turning the ball over yourself.

Two interceptions set up short scoring drives. They had a 72 yard kickoff return to set up another short drive. They had a 90 yard punt return for a TD. And the other 4 punt returns averaged 25 yards.

Their TD drives were 23 yards, 70 yards, 25 yards, 12 yards, 22 yards, 9 yards, 26 yards.

Semi-ninja’d by @kenobi_65!

I wonder what the excuse will be this time.

I guess they can try blaming Saleh again but I don’t see even Jets fans buying that one.

But a shitshow with stars!

Lousy two-minute defense: fire the defensive coordinator!

It would have been tied after the Patriots’ last-minute touchdown and two-point conversion, had Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein not missed a 44-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter. Zuerlein has now missed six field goals in eight games: cut Zuerlein!

Looks like the Chiefs defense is giungvtii on have to bail Mahomes out again.

I don’t know what this means but I like it.

Great googly moogly! (Strange auto-correct post?)

Holy fuck.

giungvtii!!!

Successful Hail Mary wins the game for the Commanders after they gifted the lead to the Bears.

Now comes the Gid bothering…

So THAT was all that screaming from across the street…

I’m nominally a Bears fan (I really stopped seriously caring about them in the 80s/90s). I laughed at that Hail Mary. Typical Bears.

My wife is in the back room and she became aware of the Hail Mary because of how loudly I yelled.

Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

I thought that when a team scored a touchdown on the final play, they still got chance for the extra point. Did that change recently?

The NFL removed the PAT in 2018.

Whhooooooooooo!!! (again) Plus, lol:

The 49ers signed former Packers kicker Andres Carlson a couple of weeks ago; he’s playing in tonight’s game, because regular kicker Jake Moody is still out with an ankle sprain, and Moody’s original replacement, Matthew Wright, dislocated his shoulder last week.

Carlson was a highly-touted rookie with the Packers last year, but struggled with consistency, missing five extra points., and only going 7-for-13 on field goals over 39 yards. His final play with the Packers was a missed 41-yard field goal against the Niners in the divisional playoffs.

A friend of mine, earlier today, noticed that, because the Niners have no open, unretired jersey numbers between 0 and 19 (which most kickers wear), they assigned Carlson jersey number 41. Someone with the Niners has a twisted sense of humor.

To clarify, if the extra point (and the possible, if extremely low-likelihood, 1-point safety that the defending team could score on an PAT) is inconsequential to the outcome of the game, then the PAT attempt isn’t played.
