Chiefs send all-pro guard Joe Thuney to the Bears for a 4th-round draft pick. Thuney was a salary cap victim for KC, and Chicago certainly got the better of this deal. Chiefs offensive line, which was already not very good, just got a lot worse.

Well, Metcalf’s teammate is now available. He’s not big, but he’s got good hands.

Seahawks release franchise-great WR Tyler Lockett - ESPN

I doubt the Pats would be interested in Lockett - they don’t need yet another mid-tier receiver who can get 500-600 yds and 2 TDs. They need a legit #1 guy.

Chargers release Joey Bosa. His dead cap number is $11,111,667. He’s not started double-digit games since 2021.

I don’t think this is actually true, at least not when averaged out for the full remaining.contract. He had 2 years left on his current deal for $41M. Making this essentially a 5 year $147.5M deal for a $29.5 AAV.

We don’t have the full details and we don’t know if the remaining $41M is still intact or if it was somehow exchanged for guarantees which would further lower the actual value. Will be interesting to see the actual numbers along with year-by-year cap hits.

Definitely not rebuilding, they had 10 wins last year.

Their #1 receiver is a star and is going into only his 3rd year in the NFL. They also fired their failed experiment at OC and replaced him with someone with real NFL experience, so there are definitely going to be big offensive changes. Which are needed considering how the run game completely vanished last year despite having two really good RBs.

Tyler Lockett is 32 years old and I believe he was the longest-tenured member of the team. He had a huge drop in production last year (at least partially related to injury) and there were many times I saw him miss catches he used to make easily. He had fallen from the #1 receiver spot to a distant #3 option.

This isn’t a surprise to anyone; pretty much everyone in Seahawk fandom expected it, as did Tyler himself. At the end of the regular season he hinted on social media that it was probably going to be his last year.

I’m still sad to see him go. I was thrilled when he was picked in the draft because I saw him as a replacement for Golden Tate, and I knew he would be special. He was my “guy” and I still have a Lockett jersey which is my favorite.

It’s the right move but he will still be a legend in Seattle.

As for DK, even though he fell back to the #2 spot that has more to do with JSN emerging from his cocoon to be top guy. He’s still a great receiver with amazing speed who can wrestle the ball from defenders, like a tight end on roller skates. He’s a valuable trade piece as Seattle figures out how to retool their offense while hopefully the defense continues to improve and look dominant.

I remember.

My Jets suck. That’s all I can say.

LA Chargers release Joey Bosa, the last San Diego Charger on the team.

The 49ers have a unique opportunity to have both Bosa brothers.

A few games a year maybe.

No details yet, but this odd a surprise.

Looks like a hard reboot for the Seahawks. They don’t have a replacement QB on the roster. You have tp wonder if they are a Darnold landing spot or maybe Rodgers?

I don’t know that this is necessary, but with a new OC, maybe they just want to overhaul the whole offense. Seems weird to me. (From the Seattle side, from the Las Vegas side it makes sense for Pete Caroll who has no QB to want to reunite with Geno, who he pulled out of backup purgatory and helped turn into a major comeback.)

I’m also seeing reports that New England agreed to a trade for DK Metcalf. The Patriots have the #4 overall pick this year. If they were willing to give up that pick, Seattle might be able to draft a QB, though I’m not certain that any of the QBs in this draft are worth being a franchise QB.

Sam Darnold, that’s intriguing. He showed last year that he could be extremely good with the right team. Rodgers seems cooked and anyone that signs him is probably desperate at this point. While Seattle is clearly shaking things up, I don’t see why they’d be desperate.

I imagine they have a plan if they are trading Geno, since Geno has been extremely solid since taking over as the starter. And a solid starting QB is not easy to find.

ETA: I’m not super shocked though, as when head coach Mike McDonald was asked about Geno being back next year on the local Brock and Salk radio show (which I listen to almost daily), he said, “I got no reason to say no. Um… I guess, yeah.” He then laughed at how ridiculous he realized his answer was when asked if their starting QB would be returning.

Geno was also set to get a $16M bonus this year if he stayed for the last year of his contract, so from a financial standpoint it makes sense for them to part with him now. He’s reportedly getting a new contract with the Raiders.

The depth chart on their website lists Sam Howell and Jaren Hall as their other quarterbacks. Howell was the Commanders’ starter in 2023, and led the NFL in interceptions and sacks. Hall was one of the four different QBs who started a game for the Vikings in 2023.

So, yeah, they have some bodies on the roster, but no one you’d actively choose to build an offense around.

To be fair, he also led the league in passing for half the season. He can sling it if you don’t set him up to get killed.

Let me stop you right there. DK is not returning a 1st round pick, let alone a top 5 pick.

Probably not, I’d be surprised by anything earlier than the 2nd round. DK’s good, but not that valuable. Then again, I’ve seen teams do dumber things (Browns and Jets in particular).

I’m seeing reports that Seattle is interested in Sam Darnold.

Free agency opens on Monday, so we won’t see anything definitive until then I expect.

“Stop, he’s already dead!”

Whether or not the bolded above was technically true (as @Omniscient noted), it also only lasted for four days.

The Browns have signed DE Myles Garrett to a four-year contract extension, which is believed to be $40 million a year, with $123 million in guaranteed money. The extension, which runs through 2030, is said to also include a no-trade clause.

Meanwhile, the Bills have waived former All-Pro linebacker Von Miller. Miller is now 35, and between a suspension, personal issues, and injuries, is now several years removed from being an effective player. Given that, as well as his large contract, the move isn’t surprising at all.

Wide receiver Davante Adams, who was cut free by the Jets last week, is reportedly signing a two-year deal with the Rams.

More transactions:

  • QB Josh Allen re-signs with the Bills: 6 years, $330 million (of which $250 million is guaranteed).
  • RB Aaron Jones re-signs with the Vikings: 2 years, $20 million.
  • WR DK Metcalf is being traded from the Seahawks to the Steelers, for a 2nd-round pick in this year’s draft. Metcalf is said to be signing a 5 year, $150 million contract with Pittsburgh.
