NFL 2026-2027: Week 7

Also, division games seem to have more variance. A division game where the home team is favored by 3? Smart money is staying away from that game

Thanks much for the insight.

Have you watched many Giants games this season? Jameis Winston has to be the most inaccurate quarterback I’ve ever witnessed. So when I hear that McCarthy has accuracy issues, my immediate thought is “Can’t be worse than Winston.”

Oh…well, hope springs eternal. Winston isn’t too bad for a backup QB, though his averages are slightly down compared to his career numbers.

McCarthy doesn’t have a full season’s worth of games yet to compare and has been injury riddled but his accuracy numbers so far aren’t so encouraging if that’s what you are looking at. The consensus seems to be that the benefit he provides is he’s more of a running threat than Winston rather than a significantly better passer, thus allowing them to open more of the playbook they had for Dart.

Me too, but hope springs eternal.

The Patriots are well coached and disciplined, so we’d better be ready to play. The weather is supposed to be absolutely beautiful with little or no wind and a kickoff temperature of 58 degrees. Bear down! :100:

JJ Watt has been named as the full-time lead analyst for CBS’s NFL broadcasts, replacing Tony Romo.

Watt had joined CBS as a studio analyst in 2023, shortly after retiring from playing, and moved to the broadcast booth last year. He’d been filling in as the lead analyst this season, with Romo on personal leave after his DUI arrest in July; Romo and CBS officially parted ways a few weeks ago.

JJ McCarthy is like Winston without the “Fuck It, I’ll just chuck it downfield and hope.” While Winston’s Intended Air Yards per attempt is, for his career, right at 10. McCarthy’s with the Vikings was 8.9. McCarthy does add value with his legs, which was never a Winston thing.

So if Jaxson Dart his and Jameis Winston had a kid, it could be very much J.J. McCarthy. The meatball “RahRah attitude” and running skills of Dart combined with the inaccuracy of Winston. Plus a little of the “What the hell is going on in Winston’s head?” with McCarthy’s alter-ego he’s named Nine.

Now I’m picturing Winston and Dart on a date and I do not like that at all.

Hold up. I thought that was just an internet meme. He’s actually about that?

I’ve seen him in interviews where he has talked about an alter ego called “9” that controls him or something. Here is a YouTube short posted by Sports Illustrated showing where he first talked about it in an NFL press conference.

Yeah, I’ll sign up for that. Anything’s better than an utterly ruined season. I don’t think there’s any way Winston can lead the Giants such that the last game they play is meaningful. With JJ, who knows. Maybe they could steal a wild card, or at least be competing for one in the final week of the season. Worth a shot, you know?

EDIT: The 9 thing is cringe as hell.

Not a great half of football for the Patriots. Maye’s red zone int, holding penalty on 3rd down gives the Bears a first down, and they let a screen play go for a TD. Ugly.

And then the Bears give up a td with 9 seconds left. Double plus ungood.

Quite an exciting game, I thought.

Chicago off to a decent 5-2 start, but fell a little further behind their coach’s stated goal of beating the single season scoring record.

The record is 37.9 points per game. Through 7 games they are averaging 25.7 ppg, so they will need to average 46.4 ppg in their remaining 10 games.

One begins to suspect they might just miss out on that record.

Boy those parabolic mics really pick up that clanging sound when a field goal doinks.

I love that the announcers immediately pointed out that at least it wasn’t a double doink this time, which was my first thought seeing it as well.

Too bad it didn’t make history as another quad doink, which would be a first at the professional level

Good grief, he turned a goalpost into a pinball machine.
