Bears tight end Cole Kmet suffered a serious knee injury in last night’s game, and the team placed him on season-ending injured reserve today.
Kmet’s role in the pass game has lessened the past two seasons, as Colston Loveland has become the Bears’ primary receiving tight end, but it’s still a significant loss.
I know that feeling. Elijah Arroyo was put on extended IR after last week’s game for Seattle and that also ended his season, and even though you rarely hear his name this year (AJ Barner is their top guy) it’s still a big deal to be down a TE. Their work in the run game and as blockers in general is often overlooked.
No matter your feelings on legalization, this is probably not what you should be doing if you want to win a starting QB gig again anytime in the near future
Lawrence McCutcheon, a five-time Pro Bowl running back for the Rams in the 1970s, who then spent over three decades in the Rams’ front office, including 13 years as the team’s director of player personnel, passed away today at age 76, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Parkinson’s is one of the neurological conditions which researchers have determined has a strong correlation with having had a long career playing football.
The Packers have activated Josh Jacobs for tomorrow’s game against the Lions. He spent the first six weeks of the season on the commissioner exempt list, as investigations related to a domestic violence incident involving Jacobs and his then-girlfriend in May were underway.
Jacobs pled no contest last month, and was given a deferred judgment, assuming no further incidents occurred, so from a legal standpoint, the matter is closed for now. However, the league has continued its investigation, and has been trying to gain access to footage from a security camera in Jacobs’ home (something that both Jacobs and the victim have been fighting to prevent in court). Typically, a first-time domestic violence incident leads to a six-game suspension from the league; if that winds up being the league’s final assessment, the time Jacobs has spent on the exempt list would count against that, but if a longer punishment is assessed, Jacobs would be looking at more time in suspension.
170 pounds, but he’s not a big guy overall (only listed at 5’ 7"). And, while kickers and punters don’t frequently practice tackling (in part because of the injury risk), they do get some amount of training.
He tore his right ACL. Looking at the video of the play, he planted his right leg just before he hit the returner; I’d guess that his cleat stuck in the grass a fraction of a second too long.
