NFL 2026-2027: Week 9

Welcome to my world. Whenever the Colts, Ravens, Titans, Texans, Cardinals, or even the Rams or Raiders are mentioned, I ALWAYS have to sit and recall which teams are in which cities.

Not my defense. I live in the Chicago area, but I’m a Green Bay native, Packers season ticket holder, and Packers shareholder.

Okay then you should be excited about the recent success of your new defensive star, Mic… Oops, sorry.

Rookie kicker is struggling, even with the return of the domestic abuser they have no running game, offensive line is a mess…and, yeah, Parsons still isn’t back.

I can relate this year when a team underperforms.

:face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

I get it. But less so the Rams. That’s more like re-learning an old habit since they went back home. The Raiders, on the other hand, I’m just always going to associate with Oakland.

One thing that helps is I live in the Houston area, so the Titans and Texans and Colts as teams in the same division are pretty easy to remember. And especially the Titans. Even after nearly 30 years, there are still people in the area who curse Bud Adams (and now his daughter) for moving the team and laying exclusive claim to the Luv Ya Blue colors

My father’s Bear fandom was a great example of quantum mechanics. He was able to simultaneously believe the Bears were both an unstoppable force that will win the Super Bowl and, at the exact same time, also destined to collapse and let down the Bears fandom.

I suppose that’s what all fandom is like.

I think that one of the most remarkable stats (in an NFL year full of remarkable stats) is that through 8 games, the Pittsburgh defense has only allowed 1 second half touchdown (back in week 3 against Cincinnati). The Joey Porter Jr situation at the start of the year had me a little worried, but it seems to have worked out pretty well, at least for the first half of the season. Admittedly, outside of Joe Burrow, they haven’t exactly been playing against Joe Montanas and Peyton Mannings, but you can only play who’s on your schedule.

With Lamar Jackson (broken thumb) out for the foreseeable future, and backup Tyler Huntley (turf toe) out for the season, the Ravens will be starting undrafted rookie QB Joe Fagnano tomorrow night…and Fagnano is practicing with an ankle brace on.

The Ravens’ healthy QBs are now Fagnano, Austin Reed (was waived by the Ravens in training camp, and re-signed to their practice squad on Monday; has never thrown a pass in the NFL), and Kedon Slovis (claimed off the Packers’ practice squad yesterday; has thrown 2 passes in his NFL career).

So you’re saying they have the fresh new blood they need to revive this team and make a dominant run to the Super Bowl…

Brandon Aiyuk finally turned in paperwork to be reinstated and plans to report to the 49ers’ training facility today. This is obviously prompted by the upcoming trade deadline next Tuesday.

I can’t imagine the Niners will find any trade partners, so the most likely result is they release him. 0% chance he plays for them again.

Statement from Jack Campbell who was carted off the field last week:

I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time. I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body.

Agreed. Even if there are teams in need of WR help (and there are), I doubt there will be many, if any, willing to actually part with draft capital for a guy who hasn’t played a down in just over two full years, and who has been a pain in the backside for his current team’s management.

The 49ers are one of those teams. I still wonder if he can pass a physical. And he still has a warrant out.

Even so, given that both John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have said that Aiyuk will never play another snap for the Niners, it’d be strange and desperate for them to reverse field on that.

I wonder if they’ll designate him a post-June 1 cut or do it immediately.

They’ll be eating something like $40+ million in dead cap over the next several seasons for a straight release.

Sam Darnold has been ruled out with a quad injury for this week’s game against the Cardinals. Drew Lock will likely get the start.

Darnold suffered a cracked rib on the second play of the game but played every snap on Monday night. He injured his quad near the end of the game.

Wow, that is ROUGH. At the end of Week 5, the Ravens were 4-1 and a favorite for an AFC playoff berth. How quickly things change collapse.

Not For Long for a reason

It’s quite possible a change in the Baltimore head coach was needed to bring a fresh perspective, but the results so far don’t look like they’d have been much different than under Harbaugh

It’s being reported that the Ravens are acquiring recently-demoted quarterback Jacoby Brissett from Arizona.
