Makes one wonder, though I would have to think that, if someone involved in the crash were charged with DUI, (a) such charged would have happened already, and (b) it would have made the news (especially if it were Shanahan).
As the article notes, NFL teams – including coaches – are on their “summer break” right now (the few weeks in between minicamps and the opening of training camps); with no “in the office” time for coaches, that may have made it easier for the news to stay silent for a while.
To be fair, Adongo did overstay his visa, and has been arrested several times and suffers from mental health issues.

I used to work in Palo Alto, on Hamilton Ave three blocks from the street the accident happened on - Alma St. That street is a nightmare, IMHO.
It’s an arterial with two lanes in each direction, but in the section downtown it has small streets ending into it every block (on one side only) with only a couple having signals. Inattentive speeders all the time. I avoided it like the plague.

At least he’s taking overall responsibility for it, so kudos for that.
Totally plausible. Sometimes I get in my car for a longish drive, then decide I want to mute it because I don’t want it to distract me. I pull it out and push the mute button. I don’t even need to take my eyes off the road, and I’m not looking at the screen (it will pulse to confirm it’s muted). I don’t think that counts as “operating a phone”.
I don’t know if that’s what he was doing or if he was doing something substantial.
I will say that I’ve dropped my phone while driving before (again, not using it, just slipping it into my pocket from where it was sitting on the seat next to me in that case) and I was sure not to get it until I was done driving because that’s insanely dangerous.
The fact that it was a phone seems unimportant to me; it could have been a pair of sunglasses he was trying to put on to protect against glare, and it wouldn’t have been any different. What matters is that having a personal object on your floorboard doesn’t justify the reckless act of taking your eyes off the road while driving. Grabbing something from the floor takes more than the split second it takes to, say, change a radio station. Bad judgement on his part and good for him that he admitted it. (Though a lawyer would probably have warned him to keep his mouth shut.)
I agree with all this. But he’s got gajillions of dollars, so he can easily afford to settle any legal issue that might arise from him being forthright.

It looks like they may have him back in the booth since they didn’t fire him outright but despite being more than a month out from the season, CBS has announced JJ Watt will fill in as lead analyst with Jim Nantz to start the season, so they’re going to have him miss some time. Possibly they’re waiting for his court appearance in late September before making a more permanent decision

Green is only 49, but as the article notes, he has been dealing with the symptoms for several years, and already reports that his short-term memory is “trash.”
I’ve had a lifelong love of football, and the Packers, but every new story like this chips away at that more. The sport just takes too deep of a toll on its players.
Yeah, they’re going to have to see if this is a case where a celebrity declares that they’ve made mistakes, need to turn their life around, and goes into rehab before eventually coming back. Or if this is a person throwing their television career away. The outcome of the court case should have a lot to do with that.
We do live in a time when someone like Romo could fall back on being a content creator and still have a career with that.
He doesn’t really need a ‘career’ at all at this point. Any more than Tom Brady or any former franchise QB of the modern era does. But he does seem to genuinely enjoy football so NFL color commentary was a good way to stay a part of the game in more than a superficial way.
Fortunately, he doesn’t seem to have hurt anybody or caused any property damage
Sure, he has so much wealth and fame he could just retire and probably do anything he wants at this point. As you say, it’s more about what he wants to do, how he enjoys spending his time, and potentially whatever legacy he might have.
