So what’s more hilarious, Tyrod Taylor and Baker Mayfield’s secret “QB only” van or that the Browns’ new slogan is “The Hardland of America”?
The QBRV almost makes me want to root for the Browns.
I won’t though because I’m worried someone might find out.
Both of those things are awesome.
Johnny Manziel to make his first CFL start.
Good for him. If Manziel is serious about having a professional football career the CFL is his best path. In the past he seemed reluctant to go that route for whatever reason. I suspect he thought being in the CFL after being a college football star, first round NFL draft pick, and starting NFL QB, was beneath him, but it’s really not.
Hopefully he commits to this and doesn’t destroy himself partying and generally getting in trouble. Some humility has got to be good for him.
I don’t think I needed it, but watching the HoF stuff (Go Jerry Kramer!) reminded me of just what a narcisstic, self-absorbed, lying piece of human garbage Ray Lewis is.
Well, that could have gone better.
Manziel threw interceptions on two of his first three passes. He finished 11 out of 20 for 104 yards, with four INTs in total, as the Alouettes lost 50-11.
This one makes no sense at all to me.The Browns traded Corey Coleman to Buffalo for a 2020 7th round pick. Coleman hadn’t lived up the 1st round pick hype in his first 2 seasons, but he had been serviceable when healthy. You don’t plan on getting a serviceable player with a 7th round pick.
Wow. A #7 in two years is just slightly north of being traded for a ham sandwich.
My guess would be that the Browns had already decided that Coleman wasn’t going to make the team (didn’t they bring in several new WRs this year?), and they wanted to get some value from him, but didn’t feel that his performance in preseason games was going to anything to increase his trade value.
Also, if they’d cut him, rather than trade him away, would his original contract still have had an impact on their salary cap for this year and next? (I’m honestly not sure.)
They Browns brought in Jarvis Landry so far. He’s a decent WR. If Josh Gordon is a question mark, then the other receivers are Rashard Higgins and I’m not even sure who else. Coleman could have played a role. By trading him, yes they get his salary off their books and he doesn’t count toward their cap, but a 7th round pick? In 2020!? I think I’d rather just have the ham sandwich.
Something behind the scenes? Did they, well, *need *to get rid of him for some non-football reason?
Looking at their depth chart, I see:
- Landry
- Higgins
- Jeff Janis (speedy guy who was with the Packers for four seasons, but mostly on special teams; he only has 17 career catches)
- Antonio Callaway (fourth round pick from this year)
- Damion Ratley (#6 pick this year)
- and a handful of UFAs
Yeah, I’d say that, beyond Landry and the massive question mark that is Gordon, the cupboard is pretty bare.
I don’t think so. That was my first thought, too. What did he do? But I’m not seeing anything.

Well I think it’s safe to assume he must have done something. You don’t just trade away a first round skill position player with two years left on his rookie deal for a 7th rounder. He was only set to make $3.5 million over the next two years. You would think you’d try to develop him, maybe pick up his 5th year option if he panned out. Hell, even the Bears are still holding out hope for 2015 7th overall pick Kevin White (also a WR). And White has only played in five games over the past three seasons. I bet it was some sort of character/locker room issue with Coleman.
The only thing I can think of is that the Browns are seriously considering Dez Bryant.
My guess: a laundry basket on a skateboard that someone on the sideline scoots around with a broomstick.
:D:D:D
Redskins and Colt McCoy looking sharp so far against the Pats.
Man, the Bengalis defeat the mighty Bears 30-27 in a meaningless game…or was it? I am 100% positive that the Svengalis demonstrated enough o-line talent to propel Joe Mixon into the 1,400 yard category, that AJ Green is still AJ Green, John Ross caught an NFL football, and various other sorts and sundries that will in fact propel the Bungholes into the Super Bowl this season.
Yep, I’m calling it. As Freddy Mercury might have once sang “Keep This Thread Alive”, I want the recognition that’s going to come with the team from Nasty 'Nati bringing home the Lombardi, so someone keep prodding me. The Bengals are going to win the Super Bowl this season. Over the Cowgirls.
Bank it!
I was thinking of creating a preseason thread, but I figured no need since most of the news coming out of the NFL now will be preseason related. Feel free to discuss that here.
I missed the game tonight, since I was out getting a full body Baker Mayfield tattoo. I’ll have to catch it on replay. Heard it was impressive.
