NFL offseason 2018

Looks like the Seahawks really got the better end of that trade with Philadelphia.

Michael Bennett reportedly indicted on felony charge.

Could face up to 10 years in prison.

A little more detail on the incident:

Allen had his pro day today and reports are that every scout in the area collectively ejaculated the entire time.

Watch how terrible the guys catching his balls are. It’s hilarious.

Yeah because shoving a person in a wheelchair is worth 10 years. It took 13 months and a grand jury to come up with this indictment with no videotape. Against a player who has spoken out against cops.

Look if he did what they say he did he should pay a fine and be suspended by the NFL, but this stinks of “Texas justice” to me . . .

I don’t disagree. It’s extremely excessive. Totally ridiculous. But you know how it goes in the NFL, it just takes an accusation to get someone suspended. This has gone all the way to an indictment. This isn’t going to go well for him, at least in the short term, as a pro football player.

I think the most damnable evidence against him is that everyone, including security, knew whom he was, he was advised by security to take a certain route onto the field after the game, which he ignored, and in his enthusiasm to get hurriedly onto the field via the route he wasn’t supposed to take, he shoved an old lady in a wheelchair over and she was injured.

Pretty dick move? Yeah. Should he pay restitution to the victim? Yup. 10 years or even any time in prison? No way.

Yes, especially when you know of the HPD Chief’s press conference calling him “morally corrupt”.

Psst… Bennett’s black. But you knew that too.

He also showed disrespect to the flag! Pelt him with Bibles (hardcover only, preferably 40lb Catholic priest editions) and racial epithets as he runs a gauntlet of people dressed up like Trump!

I have a feeling his Mensa membership will be revoked as well. It takes a certain kind of stupid to attempt to cross an international border with that much marijuana . Harmon has better be glad he was just denied entry into Costa Rica and not spending his life rotting in a Costa Rican jail.

“…Friday does not represent the person I am…”

Right, because before Friday, you were never caught. 58 grams of weed, consumables, pipes and 4.2 grams “compressed” marijuana? How much weed do you need? That’s two ounces of weed alone.

The Rules Committee and ownership are going to town on some overhauls.

Highlights:

[ol]
[li]No requirement to attempt the extra point or conversion after a walkoff touchdown[/li][li]A player making contact with the crown of the helmet is an automatic 15 yard penalty[/li][li]NFL review office in New York can overrule referees on the field and eject a player[/li][li]The catch rule has been changed - players must no longer “survive the ground”[/li][/ol]

So we’ll (hopefully) see less JAKD UP! hits, more fumbles, and Gronkowski’s “Patriot’s Elbow” leading to watching the rest of the game on the little TV in the corner of the locker room.

I think that’s a big one and a good one, but not enough.
I have pretty strong suspicions that with the concussion protocol there are players deliberately head hunting to take a player out for a series or even the rest of the game, for a 15 yard slap on the wrist.
In-The-Eyes-of-god ejections will make a bit more fair, but still not an even trade off for a star.

“Compressed” marijuana, otherwise known as shitty brick weed. That being the case, for a veteran smoker, even that much probably isn’t enough.

That’s not a lot of weed for a group of smokers on a week-long beach holiday. Considering the risk in trying to buy drugs from strangers in a foreign country, I’m not really seeing this as a major moral or logical failure.

#2 is the one that worries me most. We’re going to see a shitload of game-changing controversial calls where a tackler or runner makes glancing contact from below with the top half of their helmet. This will be 10 times more common than those ticky-tack “hitting the QB in the head” fouls where a pass rusher lightly rakes a facemask on the follow through of a attempted deflection or a pass.

As a former daily smoker years ago, two ounces (if it was potent enough, and it’s hard not to assume that he couldn’t afford or have access to the funky chronic) would have lasted me a month.

I do agree with the logic behind his decision versus trying to buy locally, but he’s an NFL player, African American, and crossing a border between countries. That’s a huge risk. All they needed was a drug dog and he’s fucked. Hell, if the weed was funky enough, the customs agent probably smelled it as soon as he rolled down his window. It’s tougher to hide that smell than a lot of people think.

The laws on this are outdated and stupid. As a NFL player, he has a lot more to lose and it’s certainly reckless to just say fuck it. At worst it’s bad judgment to put your desire to get high over your fear of losing your job, even if it’s unfair that the world works this way.

I’m guessing the stash wasn’t just for him to plow through. He’s gonna have friends and probably have plenty of strange around to share with. This strikes me as a generous but totally reasonable vacation supply. As a reference, in 2015 NYC decided it would not arrest or criminally charge people in possession of 2 oz or less of weed. At least in NYC, 2 oz is officially considered a personal recreational amount.

The problem with this rule, and I’ve already seen it happen, is that a defender can try to make a clean, textbook shoulder hit, but his target makes a last second move and suddenly his helmet is hitting him instead. There’s literally nothing the defender can do to avoid it. Especially with a head lowered for the hit. Now it’s an automatic penalty? No judgment or wiggle room. Pretty soon we might as well just not have defenses the way the league is going. We’ll just have 2 teams taking turns making a 100 yard dash and whoever does it more times in 60 minutes is the winner.

There’s a rumor afoot that the Browns have traded their #1 overall pick to the Lions for the Lions 1st, 3rd and 8th this draft, and their 1st and 2nd in the next one. The rumor is that the Lions really want Barkley. Pretty steep price, I would have asked for more this year, like their 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and then like their 2nd next season.

Nothing confirmed though.

It is April Fools Day so just be careful of anything you read. I’m so over April Fools Day, I’ve seen so much bullshit posted on the sports blogs and Facebook today.
