NFL offseason discussion (up to but not including draft)

I think the TO situation is a unique one. I understand that a team might not want to accept any drama, but I don’t think that the previous drama should have much effect on this decision. The Eagles should consider Chad’s situation and his situation alone, he’s not TO. Additionally I think the Andy Reid era is in do-or-die mode. One more bad season and both he and McNabb are gone, so there’s motivation to try something. If it implodes, it won’t be Reid’s problem any more.

Considering what the rest of the Bengals have gotten up to lately, punching out a coach makes Johnson the *nice * one.

Look, anytime you have the opportunity to get a top-five player at his position you pounce on it. You can compare this to the TO situation; you could just as easily compare it to the Randy Moss trade, which seems to have worked out rather well for the Pats.

Every one of the true stud receivers to come along in the last 12-odd years has been a punk, except the ones playing for the Colts and Rams.

Bengals refuse 1st and 3rd+ for Chad.

Washington offered a first and a third which could become a first with conditionals. I can’t believe they rejected that.

Maybe it’s bullshit and they’re waiting to trade him after June 1st. Does the split cap work the same way as cutting someone after June 1st?

Basically. Problem with waiting until 6/1 is that the cap hit can only be prorated over the last two years of the deal. If they do it before 6/1 I believe (not sure) they can use whatever they had left from this season’s salary cap, which obviously costs them nothing (other than paying a portion of his guaranteed money early).

Jake Long will be a Dolphin.

I hope they got a cheap contract out of him, because he doesn’t appear to be BPA and a 1-15 team pretty much needs everything.

I wonder how much effort they made to trade down. If I were them, I’d probably take anything reasonable at all - a 4th round pick even, to move down to 5-10 (and possibly get the same guy)

I don’t think there’s much chance of that. Orlando Pace has no cartilage and Alex Barron has no motivation. Rams need a tackle even worse than Miami does.

Fifteen pages is a pretty good run; we should move the general NFL discussion over to here.

It has that “new thread” smell.

It is pretty hard to trade down when no one needs to trade up. Anyone in the first 6 slots have enough needs to take any of the best players available at their position and need to gain picks not trade them away and there are no players worth giving up enough picks to trade up to #1 from below there.
