NFL Offseason Thread: Combine & Free Agency Version

News that no one but me is interested in: Pisa Tinoisamoa signed a one year deal with the Bears today. There was never much doubt this would happen, but I suppose it took a little time to establish the terms. Tinoisamoa could be a nice piece if he can stay on the field this year, but LB was perhaps our deepest position so it’s unclear how much this really chances things. In any case you can be assured that the Bears won’t be drafting any LBs and we’ll be deep at the position if there’s another rash of injuries.

Oh, and thanks for JT O’Sullivan, by the way. He’s a decent backup.

TO still isn’t signed. Does this surprise anyone? I admit to being a little surprised. Dude can still bring it, and likely asking price probably isn’t too crazy for a #2 wideout in this league…

I wouldn’t want T.O. on my team. Maybe he can still bring it, but you never know what he’s going to bring…or when he’s going to go crazy again. Then again, the Saints aren’t really hurting for receivers at the moment.

In a one-year contract, the amount of crazy he can do is severely limited. I’d be perfectly fine with signing him to that contract.

I wish the Bengals would just sign him already. A trio of wideouts consisting of OchoStinko, TO and Antonio Bryant sounds pretty legit to me.

Ben had another allegation against him surface today. That’s three now. Steeler fan has got to be worried about Ben’s potential suspension and how this unravelling story will affect their season.

I posted links in the “Ben In Trouble” thread. Jesus Christ.

I wonder if there’s substance to these accusations or what. I mean - if you keep getting accusations over and over again, you’re more likely to believe them - which might motivate people to go “well, shit, maybe I can make shit up and scare them enough to get some sort of settlement” and hence the more accusations we see, the more will come out of the woodwork.

Maybe, or it could suggest a pattern of (at the least) aggressive sexual behavior and alcohol abuse. The thing that’s bothersome to me is this whole “bodyguards and the VIP room in the club” thing that’s occurred in two of the incidents. Its like he’s got an entourage and a system set up just to seduce young women. Its kinda creepy.

You’d like to think that a millionaire athlete could get high quality tail on his own without all the window dressing. Its not like he’s married.

If anyone is interested, I’m trying to start a mock draft.

Don’t read too much into that. I work in the bar industry and have been for about a decade and have seen dozens of celebs in the clubs and bars. Just about all of them go out with an entourage and bodyguards. Even Jessica Simpson had the weird bodyguards picking people to come and party with her. Nothing about it is weird or uncommon. It’s not necessarily the case that this is in any way arranged for the purpose of corralling tail. The tail usually comes on it’s own and they navigate the bodyguards of their own accord. The bodyguards are just there to make sure no boyfriends or uggos cause a scene.

While I generally agree with that, once the “sex acts” were going on, Ben’s bodyguards allegedly (and if I’m not mistaken, one of them was an off-duty local cop…and Ben posed for pictures with yet another cop from the precinct that conducted the investigation) blocked entrance to the “dimly lit hallway leading to the bathroom” from her friends and anyone else.

Whatever. I simply look forward to that fat-faced stupid moron to get his bell rung legally again by perhaps Roy Williams.

I’m reading in more and more places that the 49ers are definitely considering an early-round QB. It won’t be the end of the world, but just I’m so afraid of a bust and the laughing stock it’ll make us. We have other needs!

In other NFC West news, Pete Carroll is giving ol’ Mike Williams a tryout with the Seahawks. I’m all for second chances, but Carroll shouldn’t let emotion or nostalgia get in the way of production.

Who knows what the hell happened, but you could make a case that Ben and the girl were up for some hanky panky and the bodyguards were just making sure that no cell phone cameras and facebook pictures found their way onto the intarwebs. Not exactly classy behavior but I really hesitate to read anything into the bodyguard stories and media spin on the subject.

Hell, with all the issues with drunk driving, bar fights and Matt Leinart-esque photos with players in the past you might think that him having his own security, drivers and actively protecting his privacy was a good thing considered in a vacuum.

Who knows. Mike Williams was awesome in college and maybe, just maybe, he’ll mature enough to have value. There’s no harm in working him out. Maybe he’ll show flashes and have worked himself into shape and warrant a spot on the practice squad, especially with his knowledge of the Carroll system. I always am mystified when a really young college star totally falls apart, I can’t help but think that somewhere that ability can be rediscovered.

Unless he eats Pete Carroll.

According to Adam Schefter on Twitter, Brandon Marshall is off to the Miami Dolphins for a second round pick this year and one (not sure what round, imagine it’s conditional) next year. If he has his head on straight, that fills a big need for the Dolphins. That’s a big if though.

Well good for him. I’m glad none of my team’s divisional rivals snagged him (Browns, Ravens, Steelers) although I think the Browns were the only ones making a run at him.

Late, but on Sheldon Brown:

Since the trade, it’s come out that they asked, and he declined to change positions.

No hard feelings, but … have fun going 5-11 in Cleveland, Sheldon.

5 wins by week 5, son!

Now that hopefully everyone’s onboard the Jerome Harrison bandwagon, nothing short of 16-0 is a erasonable prediction.

Doesn’t matter if his head is on straight. He could catch 10 passes in a game while hitting a crack pipe.

The real question here is whether Miami has anyone with the deep speed and hands to take advantage of defenses who will now have to focus on defending the run (Ronnie, Ricky) and short/middle crossing and hitch routes (Marshall).

Ginn can run really, really fast but he never actually comes up with deep balls.

I’m very angry at the Buccaneers for not acquiring Marshall, if two second-rounders is all it cost. We’ve got a young quarterback who needs someone to complement Kellen Winslow. Santonio Holmes would have been ideal, since Freeman is a deep-ball guy, but Marshall would have been nice. Plus, he’s a local.
