NFL Predictions - Wildcard Games

Interesting. Those are two of my most hated plays of the season. [sub]Stupid Rams defense. Here’s hoping they don’t blow up like that again in the playoffs[/sub]

So what’s the consensus for the worst overall team performance of the year? Personally, I’d favor the Bears, but they did do just enough things right to avoid total embarressment. A couple of games with Miller, some great work all season by Urlacher, an ass-whooping of Green Bay, and keeping the Lions out of the playoffs.

Any teams that you folks think really took the golden turkey for the year?

How could it be anyone but the Redskins for the Golden Turkey? Just like how Tipper Gore was picking out china patterns for the White House, the Redskins were planning their Super Bowl champions parade back in September.

Well, shit on a stick.

It was fun while it lasted. Yeah, we beat them once already in Jersey this year, but I think it’ll be a lot tougher for the Rams this time around. I’m still rooting for the Rams, but preparing myself for the let down.

And for the record, so I don’t look like I’m hopping on any bandwagons, if the Rams get knocked out, I’d like to see the Broncos (tied with KC as my 2nd favorite team) or the Titans win it all. Too bad the Broncs lost their QB. But if the Rams go home early, I’d especially like to see the Titans take it, they put up a hell of a fight last year. I’d like to see them go that extra yard this year.

If you’re giving the Golden Turkey to the team that most completely failed to live up to expectations, then the Skins take it.

But if you’re talking about just plain old crappy week in and week out futility, then you gotta hand it to the 1-15 Chargers.

Hey, Crunchy, no need to get fatalistic.

Here in NY all the papers are saying that the Rams are the Giants’ worst nightmare. Giant fans were dreading a St. Louis berth more than any other, and will be rooting like mad for the Saints this Saturday. Apparently, the concensus is that the NYGs are just too slow for the Rams high-flyin’ O.

What!!?? The New York press ripping on the home team instead of supporting them!!?? I don’t believe it.

Gaz, no, not really ripping. Just letting loose a collective “Darn! Too bad the Rams made it. They’ll be the hardest to beat.”

Wait, I get it, Gazoo… you were being sarcastic. Sorry I didn’t get it until after I posted.

Forgive me being so slow on the uptake, but I seldom, if ever follow my “home” teams on the sports pages. As already stated, my allegiance is with the St. Louis team.

Dammit! I was just informed I’ll have to work tomorrow! The game starts at 3:00 ct, so I’ll miss the first hour of the game! DAMMIT Barry (my supervisor) you had to spring this on ME of all people tomorrow! ME! There’s two guys on the day shift here who follow football, me and Danny. No one else gives a flying crap, why can’t he get one of THEM to work tomorrow?!

Sorry to hear that, Crunchy. I guess you’ll have to be the one to keep the Dopers up to date on the scores then.

BTW, I’m really rooting for your Rams now that I’ve signed up for a Playoff Fantasy Football League and have 4 Rams on my squad this week.

I’m a Giants fans, so I have to root for the Giants to go all the way… though, frankly, they’re the worst 12-4 team I’ve ever seen, and have a hard time picturing them in Tampa 4 weeks from now.

My DREAM matchup is St. Louis vs. Denver, Kurt Warner vs. Brian Griese in a 56-49 game.

My NIGHTMARE scenario (which strikes me as far more likely) is Tampa Bay vs. Baltimore (or Tennessee or Miami… they’re all the same team) in a triple-overtime game that’s won on a safety, 2-0.

LOL! That would be one hell of a match up (especially since I like both teams)! But I thought Griese injured his shoulder and would be out for the playoffs. Did I hear wrong or is he expected to be able to come back in time for the Superbowl if they make it that far?

Thanks, Gazoo!

Awww, hell, even if he does play, I see it as just a few snaps before he is pummeled by Burnett, McCrary and Co, leading to a long rehabilitation this winter. GO RAVENS!

And so do you think that will inspire the team to work harder in preparation and play harder on the field, or just roll over the Rams? I don’t fear the Giants so much as I fear the Rams’ performance in the cold up there. True, they practice outside here in St Louis, where it’s currently pretty damn cold, but practice and game time are very different.

Ok, the Rams-Saints game has just started, and the Rams forced a 3 and out. Someone on the Saints offense is hurt, but I didn’t catch who. I’ll post as soon as I find out.

Crunchy Frog here, keeping you updated.

Till 4:00 anyway, when I go home.

And on the Rams first drive of the game, 3rd and 11, Warner passes to Bruce to end a 12 play 64 yard drive to take the lead 7-0 in the first quarter.

hehehe

7-7 in the first quarter. The Saints tie it with a 10 play 70 yard drive, aided by a couple of Rams’ penalties on 3rd downs. Excuse me now while I pray:

Dear God, please give the Rams defense some brains to play this game with no more stupid penalties giving the other team automatic first downs. Please let the Rams’ defense play the way they did in the playoffs last year (vs Tampa Bay and the Titans; not the way they played vs the Vikings ok?) And please don’t be confused by the name of New Orleans’ football team. They aren’t really Saints. Feel free to smite them. Thank you and remember the Rams love you. Amen.
