NFL Preseason 2017

It’s bizarre to see Facebook posts with people happy about their team winning a preseason game tonight. I don’t watch too much of the preseason, because I don’t really care about some of the fringe players battling for last roster spots.

I’ve been to at least 100 exhibition baseball games and can’t remember the score of any of them.

I love the preseason precisely BECAUSE of the fringe players. I like to see how they react on gameday. Case in point: Trevor Davis. He lost the return job last season for the Packers and got a bit of a media push a month or so ago because he made some videos of him punt returning and saying how he wants to be the return guy. I was eager to see how he looked. A punt return TD and another long return later makes me say “Yeah, I think he’s got it again”.

Another one is Michael Clark. He’s a former basketball player who played only one season of football in college. The camp story was that he has a ton of potential, but is just learning professional football. Even though he has a huge disadvantage, Aaron Rodgers loves him. Well he, too, caught a TD pass last night. I love to see things like that.

Ezekiel Elliot. Six games. Cowboys playoff hopes…done.

I’ll assume it will be reduced. 6 games is utterly insane. The NFL might want to show that they’re ‘tough’ on domestic violence allegations, but when we turn on the TV on Sunday, the fans don’t want to see backup running backs. Just keep putting the nails into the TV ratings coffin.

And don’t draft kickers in the second round.

Aguayo released

Haha I think everyone saw that coming.

He’ll have fresh legs late in the season.

Yeah the Cowboys have a pair of 1000 yard runners as back ups. It’ll hurt but it’s not like the Giants starting backfield.

The suspension seems awfully silly compared to the one game the Giants kicker got last year after being guilty of abusing his wife.

Blake Bortles must be the worst starting QB I’ve seen in a long time. It’s seriously time to pull the plug on him.

There was an article on ESPN.com about how he is the Tom Brady of garbage time. When the game is pretty much out of reach he gets awesome.

Strategy for the Jaguars: hide the score from Blake and tell him they’re down 48 points.

I’d like to get this out of the way early.

Fuckin Redskins.

Thank you

Anquan Boldin has decided to retire.

Julian Edelman out for the season with a torn ACL, just reported by an NFL mobile alert.

Another senseless exhibition injury. Four games is too many, maybe by four.

Gronk is back, Cooks is here, who knows who else will step up but somebody will. Next Man Up. And welcome to the roster, Austin Carr.

I feel for you. George Fant, the left tackle who came out of nowhere to play for the Seahawks (seriously, he’d last played any kind of organized football back in Junior High School) was finally shaping into a respectable lineman going into his second season. And then he tears his ACL in preseason game 2. Now it’s a scramble to find the least-worst replacement for him. :frowning:

Vontaze Burfict is suspended for five games for a meaningless hit on a RB in the Chiefs game a WEEK ago. No flag on the play. Goodell must have been pissed off that Burfict returned an INT for a TD in the Foreskins game last night. What is it with this overnight decision shit anyway? What, they couldn’t wait until this morning to share the news?

It’s football, injuries are going to happen. They happen all the time in practice - a quick Google gave me 4 ACL tears during practice in the last month alone, not including the notables like Bridgewater last year.

It sucks for Edelman, and everyone who drafted him for fantasy (coming from someone who watched his 2nd pick evaporate when Jordy went down two years ago), but there’s no way to eliminate the injury risk. All you’ll get from reducing preseason games is more injuries in the regular season and even shittier September football.

I have a soft spot for Burfict (just a little one, slightly larger than the spot for Suh, slightly smaller than an acorn), so I looked up the hit. The hit itself was not bad, but definitely in violation of the new rule making all receivers defenseless while running a route. I think the lack of a flag is an issue with the ref not recognizing or enforcing the rule, not a lack of violation.

49ers rookie LB Reuben Foster has been looking so good is making me reconsider my plan to ask for a throwback 42 Ronnie Lott jersey for my birthday. I think he could be a special player. We’ve been fortunate you have seen lots of All-Pro level linebacker play with Willis and Bowman, and I see the same level of play from Foster.
