The Browns are playing an intrasquad game at Ohio State and the biggest story related to that is Tyrell Pryor will not play. He is still under a 5 year ban from Ohio State facilities but they would have let him play as a member of the Browns.

And finally, why does ESPN feel like they have to work so hard to get Ray Rice a job? All morning yesterday I heard from everyone on ESPN radio, including Adam Schefter, that Ray Rice deserves, no has the right! to play for an NFL team. Why should he be further punished for a 5 minute mistake? So what if he wasn’t that great in 2013, he’s still a starting NFL running back because he’s healthy now! It was really annoying.

I think he should at least get a tryout with someone, but I’m with you that his skills were seriously declining when he did his little beatdown.

Also, I love the preseason. I love watching my teams and seeing the new people/reserves and what they can do and how they look. I generally don’t watch other teams, but football is football

Jeez, it’s about damn time. It seems like forever since the NFL routine was employed in our house and with all that’s happened with the draft and free agency there’s a lot to look forward to this year.

Based on events of the past season, these look especially good;
Thursday, Aug. 13
Green Bay at New England

Friday, Aug. 14
Denver at Seattle

Based on offseason trades, this’ll be special;
Sunday, Aug. 16
Indianapolis at Philadelphia

ETA: I’ll take preseason if it’s all we can get now. C’mon regular season though when the gloves come off.

Based on the position, technically, the gloves will come on :stuck_out_tongue:

The Rams will depart their St. Louis training camp on August 11, set up another camp on the West Coast and play their first two preseason games on the road, not to be seen in their hometown until August 29, all to prepare the fans for leaving St. Louis entirely.

Thursday, Aug. 13 - Washington at Cleveland may feature the worst collection of QBs ever in an NFL game, preseason or otherwise. I’m a Browns fan and my Browns fan coworker seems to be holding on to some hope for this season. I can’t possibly imagine a scenario where they win more than 7 games. That said, I’m definitely interested to see if Johnny Football looks any less lost this preseason. He should get a decent amount of snaps.

That’s not really a story. Pryor is a roster bubble guy who went 2-5 as a quarterback and is only generating even slight buzz because there’s nothing else to talk about in Ohio. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s kinda my point. The Browns have absolutely nothing noteworthy to report.

Aldon Smith in jail in California, no further news but this obviously doesn’t look good for the niners.

Ah, okay.

On the topic of Johnny Football, I see him as Tony Romo. He’s an instinctive runner and gunslinger who has never really learned an offense before and who needs four years on the sideline to mature and learn the pro game. Can you imagine how awful Romo would have been if he’d started in Year One or Two? Unfortunately, Romo was an undrafted free agent and Manziel is a first round pick, and for whatever reason you can’t sit the latter.

Looks like Aldon Smith is in serious trouble: DUI and hit and run charges. I’m not about to google California DUI laws while I’m at work , but given his history, he’s probably looking at serious jail or prison time.

What was the 49ers over/under? They will be terrible. And the NFL shield continues to take damage.

“Terrible” is a gross overstatement. They’ll be more competitive than people realize, but won’t really be vying for a playoff spot.

Aldon is all done. Gone, bye bye. But it’s the losses on the offensive line that will actually hurt the team. OLB/Edge has lots of depth.

Hopefully there will be a press release from the police soon, but it looks like Aldon Smith was never actually booked for DUI at the station. The arrest was for suspicion of DUI, and Smith took time upon his release to tell a reporter there was no DUI and that the truth will come out. Reports say a neighbor called the cops when an argument escalated to him hitting their car.

So… Possibly not as bad as we all assumed, but he still can’t keep himself out of trouble. He’s on probation, I think, so even just the vandalism charge could be a huge problem.

The 49ers lost an awful lot on defense and I’m far from sold on Kaepernick.

49ers release Aldon Smith. They’re a shadow of what they were a couple of years ago.

Niners just cut Aldon Smith.

Ah, preseason. When every team has a chance and every player is “in the best shape of his life”.

What, did nobody watch the Steelers / Vikings last night? Me neither. But looking a the box score it appears the Steelers played almost no starters. And we’re underway.

The Steelers seem to have played most of their defensive starters. The Vikings played their starters other than AP for the first drive.
