Fuck them. He owes them two things: jack and shit.
God forbid he act in his own self interest, because God knows NFL teams are all about the protecting the players and acting for the best of the players. And other NFL players are all about protecting others, unless it involves the rookie pay scale or fucking over other players to make the team.
How cool would it be if he came back and beat the fuck out of the Colts and drinks the tears of the shitty ass fans who booed him.
Fun scenario… Without Luck, the Colts struggle for three years. They are on the outside looking in to the playoffs. Finally they get something going, end up a wildcard team, and in the wildcard game go up against Luck’s new team, which proceeds to shut them out.
Um…and that’s relevant how? Luck doing what’s best for Luck is fine and dandy. Don’t begrudge him at all. But the fans are totally justified in being pissed. Both things can be true at the same time.
This is not preseason related at all, but I’m watching Super Bowl XXII again right now just for shits and giggles, and what really stands out the most to me right now is all of the flags that would have been thrown if they were playing today.
For example, on the very first play, Ricky Sanders took the kickoff, then was run out of bounds by the Denver defenders. However, the Denver players not only threw him down to the ground while everyone was completely out of bounds, they literally throw him into a referee, and-- absolutely nothing. No flag, no discussion, even the broadcast announcer Al Michaels only mentions the end of the play at all because the ref got knocked down, and he was having a laugh about it.
Do you actually believe that at draft time, he knew precisely about the injury, knew the extent of the injury, knew it would keep him from playing for the year0, and knew that he should retire, but he just put it off to fuck with the Colts? Seriously?
Yep, it sucks. But blaming Luck for it is … misguided. Would they have preferred he go on IR, cash some more checks, maybe lead them on for another year? Or drag his sorry ass out there for more punishment when he knew he couldnt perform?
I dont think he knew back in May, or even this preseason, that his injury would require another long rehab. He tried to stick it out, to do what he could, but when it became evident he couldnt play, he made the call. It sucks for everyone, including Luck, but I really dont think it was his fault.
I doubt they’d be in any better shape if he quit weeks ago. Indianapolis is not going to find a replacement for him that would save their season. Not even in the draft. They’d still be screwed. Him delaying his decision doesn’t make things any worse for his team, really to me it just means he was trying to play until he realized he couldn’t any more.
I’m not even saying that Luck should have done anything differently. It’s a horrible circumstance and if I have any criticism it’s that his was naïve enough to think he could keep things hush hush allowing the news to come out at the worst possible time and in the worst possible way. He didn’t choose to get hurt again.
But the fans are justifiably pissed. Luck doesn’t have to have acted badly for that to be acceptable. It’s not zero sum thing.
I understand them being angry at the situation. Doug Baldwin, one of the best WRs in Seattle franchise history (#2 in TDs, only second to Steve Largent) retired after only 7 years. It sucks and Hawks fans are upset (including me) but nobody is angry at him for it. He put himself through hell trying to play through injuries for a long time and it’s understandable.
So why do Indy fans have to be babies about it and boo him? Doug even composed a farewell letter with notable snubs in it, and he’s still forgiven. Is it because Doug was part of a more successful team, and helped give Seattle one championship and almost a second one?
I agree that he doesn’t owe fans anything, but neither do the fans owe him anything. But there’s plenty of commentary that the fans that boo-d him are “disgusting”.
Redskins heading into the season with Case Keenum and a whole lot of questions. Haskins has looked okay in what snaps he’s gotten. He was not great in the Browns game, his first NFL action and it looked like it, but he got better each game. Last night he was decent. He didn’t do anything spectacular, but he looked the part and he made some good plays with no major mistakes. Was a victim of a lot of drops. He’s still clearly quite raw, but the talent is apparent.
Washington is going to stink to high heaven this season, might even be in the running for a top pick, but they’ve actually got a lot of young players with potential and could be legit in a couple of seasons.
Wow. Texans are so desperate for OL help they offered Jadeveon Clowney AND a 1st round pick to Miami for LT Laremy Tunsil. The Dolphins rejected it. They wanted more.
The Redskins need to jump on this deal immediately.
Cut down day for the NFL. The teams have to go from 90 to their regular season 53 man roster. That’s a lot of disappointed players. And some opportunities for bargain shopping for teams.
So far, some important news:
LeSean McCoy was cut by the Bills. Take note Zeke and Melvin: teams are becoming more reluctant to give big contracts to RBs.
The Texans traded Jadaveon Clowney to the Seahawks for a third round pick and a couple players (including Browns’ washout Barkaveious Mingo). Boy the Texans fucked that up really good.
The Bucs cut Vinnie Testaverde. I had no idea that the real Vinnie Testaverde had a son, yet alone one on an NFL roster for a ilttle.
Should be interesting to see what happens. Cuts are due by 3:00 today.
Looks like they had him under contract as a UFA for a bit during mini-camp, cut him, re-signed him early in training camp, cut him again soon after, and re-signed him again last week when Blaine Gabbert got hurt. So, cut three times by the same team in 3 months or so.
I hate the fact you are making me defend the judgement of an ex-Ohio A&M player('s agent)'s judgement intentionally, but the note to take reinforces Zeke’s point. Once an RB crosses the age threshold and has a bad season they are dumped like boiling shit. They gotta get what they can while they can, because it is a short window, and one season, even one play, can end it all.
