Sebas good from 63
What was the “inappropriate word” that was said during the New England-Miami game?
Well, 99 of that came on one play (and, for that matter, one of the last throws he made in the game).
Previous record was 927, Ken O’Brien vs. Dan Marino (youtube link).
It was a 17 yard pass and 82 yard run assisted by a poor tackling attempt and almost certainly a defensive breakdown. Quarterbacks should only get credit for passing yards to the point where the receiver catches the pass. To say Brady threw a 99 yard touchdown pass is sublime.
Jaws said “shit” at one point.
This word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
It’s actually superlime.
So a pass where the QB gets the ball to the receiver in perfect position for a long run should be treated the same as a pass where the receiver has to stop, turn around, lunge, and gets no extra yards? There’s no perfect measure, but that’s pretty flawed, too.
The QB rules make sense. He is generally left in some pretty vulnerable positions and there is a huge size difference between a QB and a DE, DT or LB coming in on a charge. Keeping hits confined to the trunk seems pretty wise.
The DB rules need to be relaxed some so that they can compete with WRs. There is less injury chance there. Those rules are all about increasing scoring and passing yards per game.
Thank you. I actually rewound to several “passes” looking for it as that’s what he mentioned but couldn’t find it. I thought the screamed “Gawd Dammit” easily heard when someone (77?) false started was far more flagrant, although neither was of any count at’all.
He did throw one completion and maybe a couple of incompletes after the 99. I thought they’d go for it too, as long as they’re not pulling him (which I would have done).
Any thoughts on why so many injuries - and several of them bad injuries? Shortened training camps? Lack of calcium and glucosomine? Confirmation bias on my part?
Hmm. How do you propose dealing with a QB who perfectly suckers the defense and then delivers a successful screen pass? Should that be negative pass yards for the QB?
Statistics are never perfect. Best you can do is hope the random quirks even out.
They sometimes use those parabolic microphones to catch what the players are saying on the field. And I’m pretty sure I heard a player saying “what the fuck” this weekend but they cut away real fast.
That 99 yard pass play was worth 16.15 points to Wes Welker in my Fantasy League…helped me win when I thought I was dead.
(9.9 for the yards, 6 for the TD, and .25 for the reception)
Next step will be flags hanging off the QBs belt.
I strongly suspect it’s confirmation bias. I’d be very surprised if the number of injuries (and the number of serious injuries) were significantly higher (on a statistically significant basis) from that seen in previous opening weekends.
They’re not trying to add to the game though. They’re trying to eliminate something that has been part of the game since day one. It would be like eliminating the forward pass because once in a while a receiver gets flattened.
Up until 1974 the kickoff was from the 40, then it was moved to the 35. IN 1994 the Kickoff was moved to the 30.
And June 6, 1996 was Day One. Who doesn’t know that?
