NFL Week 1

We’re going to have to endure more of those stupid coors light edited video with the coaches commercials. They are easily the worst damn commercials on TV, and it’s perplexing to me but a lot of people say they like them.

When I was like 13 and got my first sound editing program, I’d mass up out of context sound clips into something funny. For a brief while, when I was 13, I thought this was funny, but I got over it quickly.

Just after halftime, I said to my wife, “I’m already sick of football themed commercials.”

It’s going to be a long season, at least in that respect.

I was pulling for the Titans, but I thought it was a pretty good game, regardless.

Don’t overlook Cincinnati this season. You’ve been warned. Laugh it up, fuzzball.

I intend to, thanks. I give it 2 weeks tops until Ochocinco implodes due to lack of attention and the fact that his new cool-guy name isn’t anything special anymore. He starts acting unhappy, Marvin Lewis lays the wood to him, and it all drags the Bengals down. Shortly thereafter, oft-injured Carson Palmer takes his yearly ride on the DL and all hope is lost.

Dude, they’re the Bengals, for God’s sake. Talk about an exercise in futility. I admire you for sticking with them through thick and thin, but even you can realize that it’s been thin far more frequently than it’s been thick. Why would this year be any different?

Chad is a new man. For now.

As for your comment about Carson’s “oft-injured-ness”, he isn’t injury prone. He got his knee shredded in the 2005 game against the Stealers by Kimo Von Assassin, and got his elbow hurt by being hit making a throw against the Giants last year and partially tore a ligament.

The problem with Carson getting hurt is more a function of his oline than it is his inherent supposed “lack of toughness”. Granted, he’s not Worthlessburger tough, but he’s tough enough.

Go ahead, overlook the Bengals all you like. We are not going to be the red-headed stepchild of the AFCN this season. We are going to challenge the Squeelers and the Ratbirds for the division this year.

All I can do is sit back and watch it play out.

Interesting. I guess Seymour wasn’t too keen on being traded to the team where free agents go to die…

Fun fact: Bengals were 12th in overall defense last season.

That ranking was largely a result of improved play against inferior opponents towards the end of the year (Redskins, Browns, Chiefs) but I can say this: With our players returning from injury coupled with our draft picks and FA acquisitions, we will outdo that ranking this year, legitimately.

Mike Zimmer doesn’t fuck around. You’ll see. Mock me all you wish, the Bengals defense will be good this year. You’ll see.

I say the same thing about the Pirates and their chances for success every year.

Of course, the Pirates are eminently equal to the Bengals. Of course.

It’s OK, Pissburgh fans, mock away, after all, you’ve earned it. We’ll see. Starting on Sunday.

The Bengals are going to earn a wild-card berth this year.

I am so stoked. Only 27 more hours until kickoff. My life will have meaning again.

You’re mistaken. It’s 34 more hours until REAL football starts again. The Packers don’t play until Sunday night. Granted they don’t play a high caliber team, but rather a team that has been living on the fumes of one great season 34 years ago all but forgetting that, with that team, they should have had a dynasty instead of a one and done. But it will be a fun game to watch. Kinda like those Florida v. Florida College of Invalid Possums games in the first few weeks of college games.

Fucking rain. Because of that, my brother-in-law, a non-football fan, had to push his annual BBQ (a do not miss event) back a day. The party starts at 2:00 on Week 1 Sunday. Fuckin’ A…

Thank God for DVR.

I’m looking forward to that game. I’m high on Green Bay this year, I’m picking them to win the division. Their defense was screwed hard by injuries last year and they look like naturals at the 3-4 already.

Cutler will probably make things happen in Chicago. The race for the NFC North may be the most interesting this year.

Also, Collinsworth is better than Madden.

You set a low bar. Madden sucks.

I like Collinsworth. Sometimes he seems kind of douchey, but he knows a lot about the game and occasionally he says something interesting. I get the impression he does his research.

Anybody got a good news site available to people not resident in the US to follow the game this season? I can’t read NFL.com because of the three layers of adverts that have appeared over about half the content.

I generally like Collinsworth too, until he engages in a Steeler blowfest like he did in the Titans game.
