NFL Week 1

This is kind of like Dick Cheney citing the NYT for a story that the administration had planted there. The officiating of Superbowl XL was not bad; it was Michaels and Madden who made it appear that way. We can review all of the bullshit, but we might want to do it in another thread in order to not drop a turd in SenorBeef’s punchbowl.

Heh. If this is what it is like to be a Brown’s fan, that’s really painful. The collapses. The crappy QB. Ouch.

On the upside, damn, that Adrian Peterson is good.

Can somebody explain why the Bengals were charged a timeout for a booth review? The goal-line call was with less than a minute to play, so I assume the officials ordered it. That time add might have made the difference in the game.

Still, that was a crazy play. DAMN!

Adrian Peterson is a machine. He just threw that guy out of the way with one arm. I really hope that he stays healthy. We’ll see how that comparison with Jim Brown hold up over a career.

WHO DEY? WHO DEY? WHO DEY THINK GONNA BEAT DEM BENGALS!?

What a finish. Glad I wasn’t forced to watch the rest of it.

Not as crazy as the last one!

Favre was unspectaular but mistake free in his first real game as a Viking (and it’s still hard to get used to seeing him in that Vikings uniform. No matter how many times I see it, it still looks like a photoshop). One TD to Harvin, no INTs.

Adrian Peterson had some dehydration issues in the first half. He was puking on the sidelines and had to get IV fluids at halftime, yet he still ended up with 180 yards and 3 TDs. It was kind of cool watching him tear off that last, terrific, 65 yard, broken field TD run right in front of Jim Brown.

24 years ago, but the point is still pertinent.

That’s what I meant! I’ve never seen a play like that before. But the timeout and the extra 18 seconds might have made a difference.

I don’t really care about the outcome but it seemed strange to me.

ETA: Actually, the time wouldn’t have mattered – I forgot that Stokely ran some time off the clock before he scored. But still, what’s the deal with that?

So, Week 1 is done for the AFC North. I’m pretty comfortable with the Steelers position from what I’ve seen.

The Ravens needed a late score to finally put the Kansas City Chiefs away. The Browns had a somewhat tall order against the Vikings, but weren’t able to really compete.

And what can you say about the Bengals. Pretty much as expected.

A couple of unrelated questions for Rich Gannon. Can you define a couple of words that you used throughout today’s game that I am unfamiliar with? What is an owfense? Similarly, what is an ath-a-lete?

On a scale of “meh” through “kick in the balls”, this game was actually pretty mild.

I was listening to the game online (stupid New York and stupid NFL) and anyway, the way I remember it as it was called was that the Bengals called the TO. Then they decided to review. Since the review had no effect, it was like the review never happened, so the clock wouldn’t start before the snap and the Bengals don’t get their TO back.

I’m happy the Broncos won and I’m happy that the defense appeared to play a pretty good game, but I still don’t have a lot of faith in either side of the ball right now.

It was definitely better than your last two openers.

Buccaneers got soundly thumped by the Cowboys despite outplaying them in every facet of the game except downfield coverage. Great.

Well, my Boys gave me a scare in the first half, but came on strong in the second to take Tampa Bay, 34-21!

I gotta admit that if they’d played the whole game as sluggishly as they did the first half, they’d have had their butts handed to 'em. But I was glad to see the big plays for TDs–maybe they can finally have some peace over the whole “but whoever will Romo throw to now that the wonderful Terrell Owens is gone?” crap.

It wasn’t like they created the big plays, though- the Buccaneers blew coverages all through the second half.

Gus Johnson’s call of the Stokely TD was almost as good as the TD itself. This will be removed soon so view it while you can: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-nLmyY0V_g

Missed the Ravens game except for online updates, but it looks like the D was pretty porous and Special Teams was execrable based on the play-by-play and the box. It took until the 2:00 minute to put away a crappy Chiefs team? Led by Brodie Croyle? C’mon.

Here’s hoping we adjust and come back strong next week. At least Flacco’ stats looked decent (3 TDs, 1 Int).
Now to await the Packers-Bears smackdown…

The Lions lost?!.. Shocker.

http://forums.rotoworld.com/lofiversion/index.php/t37917.html They are called Maddenisms. He competes with Yogi Berra.

The Detroit Lions streak continues. They got edged by the Saints.

The Lion streak is at 18. That actually does not count the pre season victories. They went 3 -1 . So the streak should be over now.
