Now I’ve seen everything, RG III is taking reps as a scout team safety?? Washington couldn’t be a bigger train wreck. What’s next? Cleaning the locker room toilets?
But Manziel looked pretty good (for that one drive, anyway).
Also: the Browns are stupid. They got a penalty on the extra point, pushing it back 10 yards, making it a 38-yard try. Really they should have just gone for two right there, but ok, whatever. However, then they get another penalty on the re-kick, meaning a PAT try would have to be a 48-yarder … and they still kicked it! (It was good, btw.) That’s just dumb, though I expect that a lot of NFL teams are going to screw this up.
Wouldn’t (after the first penalty) the 2 point conversion be spotted at the 12? You’re a lot more likely to make a 38 yard kick than to get in the end zone on one play from the 12 - never mind the 22.
How do these passing rules work? The defender dives for the ball, grabs it low and rolls to his feet with the ball in his hands. Except, his momentum drove the ball into the turf. How is that not a trap? The player catching the ball is supposed to control it and keep it off the ground. I would have ruled that incomplete.
We’ll see. I had very low expectations going into this one and even though we lost and Cutler had a classic Cutler game (not handling the blitz in the red zone, interception on the deciding 4th quarter drive) I feel like the arrow is pointing up.
They looked professional, the game plan was right, Forte, Bennett, Jeffery and Royal all played solid games, the Long experiment at RT had a lot more good than bad in it, and the defense was much more competent than it had any business being.
Still a lot of holes in the roster and we have no depth, but Green Bay had to make some highlight reel plays to earn this one. I don’t think we’re going to be a sub 6 win team this year, which I think a lot of people felt was in the cards.
