It’s pretty easy to label this incompetence and not malice. Malicious refs would at least be subtle.
Dragged the toe that’s a TD.
The ref is standing 3 feet away and can’t see that toe swipe? For fuck’s sake. Thank god the booth has their shit together.
Cool, a missed horse collar…right in front of the god damn umpire. Is it really possible that replacements are this bad? I mean, these guys did ref at a lower level, right? Err,nevermind, he was still in the pocket.
Al Michaels was talking about earlier how these aren’t even the college A-team; the college A-team is still officiating their college games. Makes you wonder who the fuck these guys are.
Matt Ryan’s fantasy team was down 25 points with Roddy White still to play apparently.
I swear to God if the Falcons lose this thing…
79-0 as a franchise when holding a 20+ pt 4th quarter lead? I would not have guessed that - watching the birds for all of my life, I would have thought they blew at least one such lead in their existence.
The nerve of Schiano to not honor his betters with bent knee and open jaw! How dare he do something within the rules of the game that may cause other players to do things outside the rules of the game!
The criticisms of Schiano (especially the ones in this thread) are laughable and embarrassing. Schiano has coached teams that have caused fumbles in that exact scenario.
Whatever you say, Jules.
MNF = The Innocence of the Zebras.
"And you think if you officiate the game well, you could make them stop, don’t you? You think if you don’t mess up that call, you won’t wake up in the dark ever again to that awful screaming of the lambs. "
That’s what I was thinking: “how the hell does a high powered offense put up 13 points off four first-quarter turnovers?”
Answer: Denver’s defense is pretty damn good.
Damn, looks like the Skins are losing both Orakpo and Carriker for the season.
I’m not saying it was any factor in the Dallas-Seattle game–the Cowboys played terribly and just plain LOST. But that call against Carter for barely shoving Wilson out of bounds while ignoring the head shot to Lee from Tate was ridiculous. These officials are calling ALL the games so badly, I’ve begun to wonder if it’s a deliberate ploy to force a settlement with the NFL regulars.
Karma. Brian should have been nicer to the caveman.
I’m so ashamed. :o
This was the first thing I thought as well!
Seems ridiculous. Why would replacement refs want to deliberately do a lousy job? How does that benefit them? From their perspective they want to be seen as competent to A) keep this gig as long as possible and B) be in consideration for job opportunities with the NFL in the future, and probably in college ball as well.
The job is a lot harder than it looks when you’re on the field in real time, instead of being at home getting multiple great camera angles while having no pressure on you to get it right. There’s also a million rules to know, and most of them cam from systems with similar but slightly different rule sets. I have no doubt that they are doing their best, but their best is not good enough.
It’s not that complicated. The truth is, these guys were refereeing Arena League, UFL, semi-pro and minor college games last year.
*7th grade games
*last week
And possibly again in a couple of weeks. I feel bad for these guys to some extent, but mostly I’m annoyed at the NFL for being cheap and compromising the integrity of its own product to save some change.
