The celebratory techno music track convinces me of his guilt…

That was celebratory? Hmm, I must need to calibrate my House music translator.
Through 3 1/3 quarters, Will Witherspoon has 6 tackles, a sack, forced fumble and interception. Think that guy’s motivated now that he’s playing for someone other than the Rams?
He’s always looked a bit out of place there. I like him on the weak side where he can be more active. He never looked right in their defense. Another guy I’d like to see liberated from there is Adam Carriker. I’d love to see him as a 3-4 end.
As well as your anti-Bengals/pro-Bears-o-meter.

I need to calibrate my team loyalty. I am dangerously close to NOT rooting for the Redskins for the rest of Dan Snyder’s ownership.
I feel for ya. At least Jerry Jones is 67, although there’s always sons Uday and Qusay Jones to consider. Snyder, however, has given you 10 years of misery and still is a spry 44.
Yes, but DC has public transport, so Snyder has a much better chance of getting hit by a bus.
I’m pretty sure the rule actually is that the referees should try and get out of the way of the players, but if they don’t, tough luck for the players.
And looking at the replay, the ref looks to be more or less in position: he’s going to be close to, but behind, any late blocks or tackles, and he does a good job of getting out of the runner’s way, moving downfield while keeping an eye on the play.
And from the one angle, it looks like Dugan sees the ref the whole time, and makes zero effort to avoid him (though Dugan did have to avoid the runner, which could have been distracting, he seems to be looking straight ahead the whole time). If other angles confirm, I’d say Dugan deserves disciplinary action.
I think that the hit looked deliberate and Dugan should get some disciplinary action of some kind. That may even warrant a suspension beyond just a fine. You do not want the refs to become targets for reprisal because some player got his panties knotted.
If I remember correctly, the rule is that the Refs count as part of the field and it is entirely the players responsibility to avoid them.
It is the players’ responsibility to avoid the referees in the context of the play- ie., you don’t get a do-over if you’re a wideout and you get knocked down by a referee while trying to make a catch- but it’s the responsibility of the officials to keep out of the way of the players in the context of who has right-of-way.
Yep. The player has the right of way. The officials are “part of the field” in that any kind of incidental or accidental contact with the players or the ball does not affect any rulings (like RNATB, said, there’s no PI if they crash into a receiver), but they are supposed to at least try to get out of the way. The players do not have to go around them.
A bad owner can sometimes give birth to a good owner. Jed York is doing a very good job running his idiot dad’s team.
Well [url=“http://backporch.fanhouse.com/2009/10/27/awful-nfl-teams-killing-sports-books/”] The really bad teams are killing Vegas. Vegas cannot make lines high enough to attract money to the Rams or the Browns or the other horrible teams. They try to set the line to attract money to both sides and they simply can’t. Indianaoplis verus the Rams? They kep tsetting the line higher and higher and all the money was still going to Colts.
Well, the obvious solution in this case is to set the line even higher.
Can anyone tell me why eating during a game is considered such bad form?
Because the NFL, like most things in America, takes itself way too seriously.
It’s not, it’s a completely media manufactured story. Supposedly it would be disrespectful to the opponent in that it implies that you are not taking them seriously. It implies that you aren’t taking your job seriously, spending time on the sidelines acting like a spectator and not a player who is at work. It could be seen as showboating, ala TO’s get your popcorn ready. All that said I’ve not heard anyone who’s actually bothered by it, the media is trying to create news here.
I was thinking more of “if you eat during the game, you might have to poop during the game.”
…and that might be tough putting all those pads back on.
Done properly, eating should not induce pooping for at least 12 hours…
