NFL Week 7

I found the Colt’s punter Pat McAfee to be impressive with his hit this week…

“Nice hit, mama!”

Huh, it would appear Titans owner Bud Adams has passed at 90 too.

I’m sure there are those that held him in high esteem. As a Houstonian when he pulled the Oilers out of town in a stadium dispute, I never had much affection or use for him. But, again, I’m sure there are those who did.

He outweighs the punt returner by 60 lbs.

One of my most hated players in the NFL should be up for a suspension for yet another cheap shot. Brandon Merriweather had a helmet to helmet shot on Alshon Jeffrey and a led with his head on a hit to Brandon Marshall. Here’s hoping the NFL finally gets their head out of their asses and swats the cheap shot fuckwad with a hefty suspension.

{Although I would be lying if I said I didn’t like the irony of the latest hits coming against the team that employed him last year when he got fined twice for illegal hits)

Brandon Marshall agrees with you.

I feel a bit bad thinking that the real revenge will come when Merriweather is unaware of his surroundings and drooling on himself and at the ripe old age of 45.

As a Skins fan, I’m embarrassed to have Merriweather on this team. That one hit (on Jeffery, I think) was unquestionably deliberate helmet-to-helmet spearing.

And yet Merriweather is quoted saying that they were all legit hits and he’s not trying to headhunt his opponents. The Bears dumped him as soon as they could after they realized he wasn’t so concerned about coverage as he was about spearing the other team’s wide receivers.

Is there a video of the hits from Sunday on any site? I missed the last half of the game and didn’t see them.

Here is a GIF of the hit on Jeffery.

Not to dispute that the rule was indeed put in as a player safety matter, but let’s just say Bill Polian maybe isn’t what you’d think of as an unbiased source when discussing Patriots and NFL rule enforcement. (Hint: who was the person – who just coincidentally happened to be GM of the Colts – that pushed for restricting defensive players contact with receivers in the early 2000s – again it was mere chance this happened after the Colts were repeatedly beaten by the Patriots?)

Thanks.

Holy cow. If Merriweather actually thinks that’s a legit hit, then maybe someone should check his brain.

The one on Marshall was significantly worse.

ETA: Found the GIF

Good lord, both of those hits are appalling.

2 Game Suspension for Meriweather.

Feels about right, but I don’t get why these guys aren’t being ejected from the games where they actually commit the fouls. The Redskin’s next 2 opponents benefit from a crime against the Bears, kinda dumb logic there. Doubly so on occasions where a flag doesn’t get thrown.

How come no one is ridiculing Bill Belichick for not knowing the rule changed about pushing lineman on a field goal try? There’s video evidence that his team has done this before in previous games, obviously they were being coached to do this. How come no one will question/ridicule Belichick like we ridiculed Schwartz for challenging that play not too long ago? We always ridicule ignorance of the rules, but Belichick skates. And I haven’t seen anyone in the media with this angle.

What I read was that Belichick knew about the rule change but had interpreted it differently. At first he said they hadn’t broken it and should not have been penalized. Now he says they were wrong and he takes ownership for the penalty having coached his players wrong. Also reports have surfaced that the refs warned the Pats not to do that after observing it on an earlier kick. When they continued they threw the flag.

But yeah, ridicule him all you want. I’m no fan of his methods.

The way Merriweather plays in coverage, teams that throw the ball might actually suffer if he’s not in there letting guys burn him and being too slow to stop a completion.

I had no idea a sack could actually be amusing. Never seen a reach around quite like that before.

Wow, Cutler has a torn groin muscle and is likely done for the year and now NFL.com is reporting that there are rumors that the bears will be looking for a new QB as Cutler’s contract is up after this season. What a bad break for the Bears.

That was very cool. Otherwise, aside from that punt return TD and two good drives by the Giants, this game has been putrid.
