Siragusa didn’t fall on Griese in the playoffs. How do I know? Because Griese didn’t play in last year’s playoffs. He was injured prior to that game, and Gus Frerotte started for the Broncos, led them past midfield once all day, for a grand total of 3 points.
What you might be thinking of is the Raiders game, where Siragusa made a clearly non-dirty sack of Gannon (the refs were correct in not calling any penalty on Siragusa) in the middle of the second quarter. Certain delusional Raiders fans have pointed to that tackle as an excuse and suggested that it may have made the difference in the game, but the reality check is:
- Every Gannon-led Raiders possession that day ended either in a three-and-out or a turnover.
- Backup QB Bobby Hoying led the Raiders with a grand total of 10 yards rushing in that game. Tyrone Wheatley had 12 rushes for a total of 7 yards.
- The Raiders scored their only three points of the game because a Dilfer turnover set them up deep in Ravens territory for an easy field goal.
- The Raiders only had one decent offensive drive all day.
Just the facts…deal with it. The silver and black is all hype.
