NFL Wildcard Weekend

The Super Bowl is in Foxboro??

Apparently the intentional grounding call is controversial. Watching it in real time I thought it was an obvious call. I have not seen anything to make me feel different.

Well, I was a little taken aback by the Mariota-to-Mariota TD pass. I did not see it on TV, and with the low quality of available video, I could not tell exactly when he threw the ball. He was right at the blue line. It looked a lot like an illegal forward pass.

The Mariota pass was close, but it was legal. Your entire body has to be past the line of scrimmage for it to be an illegal pass.

Bortles v Taylor was just brutal, ugly quarterbacking. I have absolutely zero confidence in the Jags defeating the Stealers at Heinz Field. None.

As a Chief’s fan, I’m happy to hear that Jeff Triplette may be retiring (about 3 days late, unfortunately).

Bills choked and Jags got about every lucky break imaginable.

Let’s go whoever plays the Patriots from here on out.

If they do it will be with their defense which is quite good. Not good enough I’m thinking.

As a football fan, I’m going to say it’s about ten years late.

Yeah, their defense is definitely top notch, but the last time these two teams met when Ben threw five picks, the Stealers offense hadn’t found it’s groove yet. Now it has. The big question is how well can Antonio Brown play.

How did he get a playoff game anyway?

Can we throw in whoever’s playing the Vikings, too? I just have a little personal animosity towards their fans.

Me too but I also would like to see history made; having Minnesota in a Minnesota SB would be an interesting novelty.

I asked myself this exact question as I sat down Saturday to watch the game (I’m not the kind of fan who knows the ref assignments in advance.) Seriously, aren’t playoff games supposed to be rewards for good officiating throughout the season? Triplette has consistently been one of the worst refs in the NFL, and his crew was awful in this game (and FWIW, I had no real dog in the outcome of the game, and think that their poor officiating was relatively balanced.)

As a Viking fan for over 40 years, I may have a slightly biased opinion, and I know you said “personal animosity”, but looking at it objectively, we’re not even close to being that bad compared to others. Yes, a bit whiny when things don’t go our way (over 50 years of frustration will do that), but we’re certainly not as obnoxious as Jets and Eagles fans, nor as arrogant as Pats and Steelers fans.

You’re always going to get some “good-natured” ribbing within the division rivalries, but I’ve never heard of Packers fans getting physically abused at Vikings games like I have about Steelers fans in Cleveland, or the fights that take place in Miami when the Jets play down here.

Especially because the AFC is the designated home team this year, so… the Vikings would get kicked out of their locker rooms for the Super Bowl?

LOL good point. Hilarious. Now I’m really wanting to see that play out.

Damn, and I thought Seahawks fans were the ones everybody loved to hate.

Now now, people still hate us just fine thank you very much! They may hate us a bit less this year since we just missed the playoffs.

From my limited sample, I’d have to say Steelers fans are the worst. I’ll never forget working at a bar on the first day of the season, we were on hold with Direct TV trying to get the Sunday Ticket to work, and a bunch of obnoxious Steeler fans were being jerks, blasting the jukebox, and being loud while we were trying to talk to the poor customer service guy at Direct TV.

Of course, no one is more obnoxious than Notre Dame fans, especially the ones that had no chance to get into any university but feel connected to Notre Dame because they went to a Catholic high school 25 years ago.
